Two major car smashes in Bodden Town

(CNS): One driver remains in hospital being treated for serious injuries and a second escaped with just minor injuries following two separate single-car crashes in Bodden Town on Sunday. The first happened at around 5am on 8 January near Walter’s Estates on Shamrock Road, when a white Kia sedan was flipped on its side and sustained extensive damage. Police said the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance but his condition at this stage has not been confirmed. Two hours later, also on Shamrock Road, by the junction of Manse Road in the heart of Bodden Town the driver of a green Toyota Dakota lost control and collided into a wall and a CUC pole.

In that incident, the driver escaped with only light injuries and did not go to the hospital. The RCIPS said that CUC removed the broken pole within 30 minutes of the smash but it’s not clear how long nearby customers were impacted by the power outage.

Both collisions are now under investigation by the Traffic Management Unit.

My relatives who are currently visiting asked:
    1. Why there are so many vehicles without license plates on the road (no they don’t have a license plate thrown on the dashboard or one of the temporary paper ones taped to the front and rear window)
    2. If we have speed traps

All I could do is laugh and tell them it’s the Wild Wild West – on Cayman roads everyone does whatever they want.

Speed traps are on South Sound…occasionally. the license plates are on back order waiting for the new smart plates, I thought most cars had nothing but the ones I have seen usually have the temporary plates behind privacy glass and only visible when very close. As to doing what you want, yep, agreed, but as I tell my kids it just means its even more important to drive correctly to show everyone where they are going wrong.

Why is that smashed charred car still on the side of the road in, I think, Lower Valley? Or is that Bodden Town? It’s been there for ages!

Often, after a long period without rain, the roads can become really slick after it finally does rain. I imagine this would have been a contributing factor in these incidents due to the rains overnight Saturday-Sunday.

Just wait till the freshly arrived visitors in their rental cars head to the Butterfield roundabout and follow the newly painted arrows directing them to turn right.

Surely we are the single car crash capital of the world when the population is taken into account. This happens almost every day and one reason for our high electricity charges is the cost of all the light poles that have to be replaced

FYI people of the Cayman Islands…

Mario Cart is just a game! The same rules do not apply in real life!

Speed Kills. I guess if CIG implemented a proper drivers education program they would save their own people from single car accidents. But then again assisting in bringing Manny Pacquiao here just feels better.

Maybe stop them drinking…come on, you honestly believe that sitting them down and giving them a highway code test will stop them…Heineken and Appletons are more likely the culprit. DRINK + DRIVING = CRASH….just be glad it was single car and not a head on.

    Toyota Dakota? Or Dodge Tacoma?
