Premier recovering from kidney stone surgery

(CNS): Premier Alden McLaughlin was admitted to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town Monday with severe stomach pains that turned out to be kidney stones, officials have stated. The country’s leader has already undergone successful surgery and plans to be back at his desk before the week is out. In a short statement from his office Tuesday morning, officials said he felt unwell earlier in the day and was admitted to hospital, where the diagnosis was made. Following the routine surgery yesterday, he is now in recovery, resting comfortably, and is expected to be discharged today.

“The doctors kept me in hospital overnight to make sure everything is as it should be,” McLaughlin said. “They have also ordered a couple days of rest, following which I hope to be back in office by the end of the week.”

Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell will be acting premier during the interim period while McLaughlin recovers.

“My colleagues in Cabinet join me in wishing the premier a full and speedy recovery and we look forward to his return,” Kirkconnell said.

Country & Western Bar and D’ Station bar will missed him. Drinking rum every night doesn’t help your kidney.

Vitamin K2 has a wide range of underappreciated health benefits:
It prevents calcium from going into all the wrong places and makes sure it gets into all the right places. For example, it keeps it out of your kidneys, where it would cause kidney stones, and keeps it out of your blood vessels, where it would cause heart disease, but helps it to get into your bones and teeth, making your bones strong and your teeth resistant to cavities.

  5. Wishing Mr.Alden a speedy recovery as I know from experience how painful Kidney Stones can be.All the best sir.

  6. Beaumont Zodecloun says:

I’m older than Premier McLaughlin, and I had a kidney stone event early last year. Gettin’ old ain’t for sissies. Stay well hydrated and watch your oxalate-rich foods and high-purine foods. Look it up.

This is a pain you want to avoid. As the nurse in hospital said to me, as she gave me a shot for pain, “this is the closest you’ll ever come to childbirth, and it ain’t nearly close.”

I would like to agree to disagree about G.T. Hospital being as described because my life was spared there and had many surgeries. They were All successful and the staff in the surgical unit, ICU and many other depts. were professional and caring also. This is not a Political statement it’s a fact. Why are we the first ones to criticize our own hospital and yes sometimes things go wrong but there is a lot of good going on too.For 2017 lets not forget to sometimes acknowledge the good. I am glad Alden that you are recovering well.

    • MM says:

Completely agree with you Mr Lemay; they have saved my life through skill and compassion and I have undergone three very successful surgeries there. My doctors and nurses ensured I was as comfortable as possible at all times and showed genuine care and concern.

Well – he should have seen first hand then what run down state the hospital is in….

    • Anonymous says:

agreed….. I’m sure his sister “head of A&E” had him in a top private room, so he wouldn’t see how slow, and poorly run the ER and entire hospital is..

      • Anonymous says:

ER is such a disaster! Absolutely shocking and a true disgrace!!!

        • Anonymous says:

From my visits there over the years for things that are urgent (ie cuts and broken bones) it appears that most of the people there are using the emergency room as a walk in clinic when they have a cold or something they should be booking an appointment with their doctor to take care of.

Have some human decency! The man just had surgery. What is wrong with you people? What? Is it that you don’t get political favors like you used to? What has he done to you? The economy is thriving and more people are employed. The government finances have been restore and in track to meet debt obligations. Are you hungry or sick or uninsured or unemployed? Well there is aGovenment agency that can help. If you are just looking for handouts or jealous that that the Premier is more handsome fitter smarter and stronger … then I’m sorry for you. Poor ting!

      • Anonymous says:

Seriously? First off. This shouldn’t even be news. Second, he should take care of his health better. Third everyone knows to stay away from GT hospital unless you have a minor injury. Anything serious, go to East End or fly away.

      • Anonymous says:

Wow, if you are female the premier is married. And if you are a male the premier is not gay. And I’ m almost sure he’s not your relative or your friend. So leave people alone to express them selves!!! EVERY ONE IS ENTITLE TO THEIR OPINION!!
