Ex security finance boss jailed for theft

(CNS): The former financial controller at the Security Centre Ltd has been remanded in custody ahead of her sentencing hearing, which has been postponed until later next month. It’s almost three years since investigations at the security company turned up what was originally believed to be the theft of around $1 million and led to the arrest of Patti-Jane Ebanks. In November last year the 51-year-old accountant eventually pleaded guilty to stealing around half a million US dollars from her employers over a three-year period.

Following talks between her defence attorney and public prosecutors on the eve of the expected trial, Ebanks admitted to the theft of CI$420,000 after almost two dozen charges of theft, money laundering, forgery and fraud were consolidated into one count. But when Ebanks appeared in court Friday, the court remanded her in custody based on the inevitability that she will be serving a prison term.

The full sentencing hearing, when the crown’s case against Ebanks will be presented to the court and the term she will serve will be confirmed, which was set for 3 February is now scheduled for 23 February to allow for the completion of reports.

Jail time for the Caymanian, is just but, no court appearance nor jail time for the English charity thief, who was allowed to leave the island is unjust. Any theft, great or small is theft.

Well, lets see what jail time she gets versus the English accountant who stole about the same amount, paid it all back and got over 3 years in jail. Bit of a difference comparing the amount of jail time someone on island and can face trial here gets to someone who fled the island before they were arrested -that’s a damn sight more relevant than expat versus local.

Why is there NO PICTURES of this Patti-Jane Ebanks?

The “Gravy-Train-Woman” (Michelle Bouchard) had a pic for every article posted in the press.

CNS, can we have some optics on Ms. Patti? Thanks.

I agree Post some pictures … It seems to be a lot of confusion in the community anyways because there is more than 1 person carrying the name in the district of West Bay.

CNS: We post pictures when we have them. This is not always possible.

I am guessing house arrest for 12 months after a 4 month prison sentence, and she will get credit for 2 months, so she will be out in time for spring after serving 2 actual months in jail.
