PPM urge supporters to call out ‘fake news’

(CNS): In a membership circular this week the Progressives urged their members and supporters to call out the radio talk show hosts and callers who are spreading “fake news” or false allegations about the party and the current government. The official party notice said that accusations had been made by some opposition members and political hopefuls that the PPM had insisted no other political party or candidate could advertise during the same times their ads were running, suggesting the party had insisted on a non-compete clause for the advertising contracts, which isn’t true.

“This is absolutely false,” party officials said. “In no way have the Progressives requested a non-compete clause for advertising contracts nor tried to limit access to the media for anyone, including other political candidates or parties.”

The party asked its supporters to add their voices to the public space when they hear false allegations.

“We ask for your continued assistance in calling in to the talk shows to let people know the truth, should you hear these absolutely incorrect accusations or any others made going forward,” the PPM stated. “As we enter the election season, it is important that everyone who can do so call into radio talk shows to support your government and your elected Progressive MLAs.”

The PPM has been running a series of radio adverts on Radio Cayman, Rooster and Z99 for the past few months which the party said carried important messages for everyone to hear and understand.

This is a pathetic attempt to pull on people’s emotions. Your supporters are not made to “protect” you from false accusations and “news”.

Expecting no opposition (no pun) in any election only highlights your embryonic political experiences. Perhaps not paying attention to a futile accusation and focusing on actual proactive policies and messages MIGHT give you another term.

I hope we will have the swamp filled properly, in order to keep out the position seekers in the next election. Those who were there before did nothing or didn’t do a good job, so why should you waste your vote on them in 2017. Fill in the swamp before it’s too late.

I know one thing….the PPM has brought stability back to these Islands. I cannot undersrand why anyone would want McKeeva and his croonies back in the house. The onky thing left for him to do is to sell our birth rights. I say NO to the CDP. Jillary did not win on her popularity vote and I don’t think McKeeva should, either.

I call out the Progressives themselves. I never though anyone could be as bad a Big Mac….but Alden you sure showed us!

I wonder if ppm supporters will call into rooster and radio Cayman when Woody and OC accidentally say something negative or flat out lie and tell the public on air that this is the best government ever? Those two hosts seem to get all mushy when they have ppm guests spreading propaganda in studio

Our nest election will be more like the recent US election that any other in our history. As we are always so prone to “mirroring” US lifestyles, habits and trends, our politicians and political hopefuls will adopt similar tactics whether such fit or not.

I can foresee a certain newspaper approaching campaign coverage is US media fashion
(pity that newspaper does not copy US media standards in reporting and investigative journalism as it’s usual media responsibility). Those who throw their hat into the political arena this time around can expect US media-style exposure of their position (that is good) and their person (that has it’s place and limits).

PPM has already jumped on the “fake news” bandwagon and I guess that newspaper with the direction-finding name will be our Breitbart News!!

No group does negative news, misinformation, malicious rumor mongering, using their positions to persecute detractors, settle personal and political vendettas and spreading falsehoods better than the PPM leadership and hardcore supporters. It is disengious of any member of that political party to believe that they are not masters of the dark art of politics and negative campaigning all year long. They have surpassed Big Mac’s UDP because they are better organized. It starts from the very top of the party with no exceptions amongst the leadership, cabinet ministers, MLA’s and ranks of experienced volunteers and party members who preach loyalty to party over the country.

Look at their collective actions not the nice guy routine and bible quotes.

Funny how PPM MLAs never say a thing about domestic abuse and sexual abuse of children. I wonder why?

That is some bullsh*t when you got people drinking koolaid and they can’t hear the truth when it’s being told to them. That’s why I stopped participating in politics…no use in talking to a brick wall as so many people of voting age seem to be in Cayman. No use in telling some peopl anything about what is really happening when you’re too jaded to hear what’s true.

  18. Caymanian says:

And so it begins. We all thought this was the start of Christmas season when it is infact the beginning of the crazy season when all the mental crackpots come out of the woodwork and say anything and everything regardless of truth.

People like our Arab friend for instance….

    So let the games begin!!!

The fact is the PPM is the best government we have had in along time. The people squealing are the ones that didnt get their handouts and the unemployed wanna be politicians just looking for a paycheck

      • Anonymous says:

Maybe all politicians should work work for free then. That solves that problem, oh wait. Can’t do that, the premier wants his pay check of 15,000.00 per month.

      • thats how it goes says:

And that is how the Progressive think about their constituents! They must be complaining because they didn’t get this handout. I dare any PPM member to come to my house with a turkey this year! I will start a new fashion trend — the turkey hat…..

      • Anonymous says:

Yes they are the best. 8 more years for them all!

Well, you cannot possibly be a small business owner.
        Sir/Madam, your facts are wrong.

      • well says:

The fact is the PPM have done nothing to help the average Caymanian, cost of living has really not gone down in real terms, the banks treat us like we don’t have a choice, the employment situation is worse, despite their claims unemployment is down, the abuses and discrimination and difficulty getting a job is all still a problem and don’t get me started on education!!!!

        • Anonymous says:

Oh rubbish! Unemployment is down by half and the cost of living is down significantly too! I am happy that the gov has given us back $17 million a year on the CUC fuel duty alone! So yes I feel that the average Caymanian is better off with this Government and can certainly hold their heads up now!
