Mac makes veiled attack on Hewitts

McKeeva Bush, Cayman Islands Opposition Leader

(CNS): Falling short of denying or admitting his part in the election petition against Tara Rivers, Opposition Leader McKeeva Bush took aim at Gordon Hewitt, his wife Velma Hewitt, who is a former member of the UDP, and their lawyers on his Facebook page Thursday without ever mentioning anyone’s name. He did, however, single out Cayman News Service and its commenters when he described this online news source as a place that exists to “denigrate and allow those who hate with a passion to spill out their venom without identifying who they are”, as he deflected the allegations made against him.

The anonymous comments section on CNS provides an open platform for everyone, including civil servants, to comment on news and current affairs without fear of sanction or discrimination of any kind, including job loss, because of their expressed views. The owners of CNS believe that democracy functions better where all views are heard on topical issues and not just the views of those few who have no fear of retaliation.

One such issue that is currently ongoing is the bankruptcy of Hewitt as a result of a more than $200,000 cost award against him won by the education minister, Tara Rivers after she successfully withstood the election challenge and subsequent appeal over her qualifications to be elected. Gordon Hewitt has claimed in sworn court documents that not only did Bush instigate the challenge but assured him that his party, the UDP, and Renard Moxam, a former member, would be footing the bill.

But Bush, who has just returned from London, where he represented Cayman at a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference, vented his anger at the situation on his own Facebook page today, after ignoring requests for comment from CNS regarding the recent news coverage of allegations by the Hewitts in court.

The opposition leader does not admit that he played any part but takes offence that people are blaming him for not helping. Under a Facebook post entitled, “JUST SAYING!”, Bush said that when any colleague “past or present or their consorts or those who have tried to unseat me as an elected official and fail, write outright lies, trying to make me look like the worst, I most times, as I do now, only say that their hate their jealousy their prejudices their outright meanness will just get the better of them”.

The UDP (a.k.a. CDP) leader said that when “they do something they should stand up and take the blame or the credit”, adding that “they wanted it they tried it they went through the processes to do it. They would have counted the fallout if any !! And if they had gotten what they wanted then all would have been good and dandy!!”

Without mentioning the individuals or the case he was speaking about, he said that the people involved were now trying to blame him because “he is a good target to always blame and accuse”, as he spoke about himself in the third person.

The opposition leader also had a dig at the lawyers, saying that in “a legal and constitutional matter they would have gone to and discussed” matters with the lawyer and taken his advice. But Bush asks, “And if the lawyer is a poor lawyer? Well then?”

He then declared that by the time the truth is published, he would have “gotten some damage”, as he accused people of doing evil. “I must say that when I do good and the person receiving that, but didn’t get all they wanted or still want, and as a lawyer or politician (whatever they are trying to be at the time) is so desperate they know I know, as the good people in the country knows, they will self-destruct,” the opposition leader stated cryptically.

Bush has not commented directly on the challenge or his role in it.

According to the documents filed in the bankruptcy case, the Hewitts and local attorney Steve McField claim that Bush had first raised the idea of a challenge with Velma Hewitt, who ran on the UDP ticket and came in fifth. She told the party leader she did not want to make the challenge because it would make her look like a bad loser but she said she would discuss the issues with her husband.

In further meetings with the Hewitts and members of the UDP hierarchy, the Hewitts and McField, who was the instructed attorney on the case, all claim that Bush was leading the charge, persuading Gordon Hewitt to press ahead on the basis that Renard Moxam would pay. Bush’s involvement is underscored by the Hewitts’ and McField’s claims of more meetings and dinners with the opposition leader, who they insist took the lead on the whole idea to challenge Rivers’ election.

Bush held a party on Saturday. Estimated cost, 100k. Loads of free bags of groceries and turkeys. If you are prepared to sell your vote for a turkey, you deserve to be ruled by one.
Some people got their freebies, went home and came back for seconds…lol.

Oh poor Mac. The whole world trying to blame him and pull him down but sympathy is with the Hewitts on tis one. I swear this man has a persecution complex. He is never wrong.

It really is time for the UDP/CDP to go. No Succession plan. No new blood. Nothing but Mac and his brazen denials. Oh and I almost forget the cuttroat who still frequents all the bars without a designated driver. The more things change the more they remain the same with this lot.

The signs of the time are here with us the UDP/ aliasCDP is imposing. The Leaderwho has caused this country so
Much heartache by varying unprecedented disturbing actions , cannot govern this country again

The Man needs to truly reflect on
The damage to the country and to his supporters and now do the only Honourable act that “only may” be the most chivalrous act he will ever perform again. Lack of Credibility begets lack
      Of confidence and now
More than ever these Islands need a strong dose of both.

People of these Beloved Islands be wary of those who
Come to your doorsteps singing from that old worn out UDP! CDP handbook. It has not only a tired ,untruthful message but also does not convey truth, honesty fairness or love for these Cayman Islands. We must not accept any more mediocrity in those who wish to lead us.

MayGod Bless these Beloved Islands .

I wonder if the Premier or Mr Cayman Brac Trump were invited to Donald Trump’s inauguration party? When Mr. Trump eventually visits the Cayman Islands I do suspect that Mr. McKeeva will be one of the very few that will be able to speak with him.

I can already see Mr. Trump’s namesake on the Brac trying to lure him into buying up Divi Tiara, the Alexander and explaining how well-suited our air service is – ha, ha, – had to put that in there Moses Trump!!!! Can’t ever get to see you in person, as I am not one of them coming to beg something from you. Also, how do you expect people to travel to the Brac if your airport intercom system is so poor in Cayman?

Hey why not a Christmas photo together of the two PPM representatives from the Brac? Perhaps government could hire the gentleman who does photos from the shoppe just a little east of the westernmost primary school!!!

Why don’t both of you get together and organize a nice dinner for some of the elderly folks. And both of you should consider, since you are on the same team, having a public meeting together (remember those things?).

Anyways, remember folks Jesus is the reason for the season.

    Wow !!

I must say that things are off to an absolutely great start for our West Bay Elections in May 2017.

This kind of rant on Facebook is so typical of Mac when his feathers get ruffled. I would say that he just lost several hundred votes in Boatswain Bay from the Powery Clan and if you add up their close connections to the Ebanks, it’s more votes that the UDP CDP won’t get in the Republic.

I see lot’s of old fridges, stoves, washers, dryers along the road side in West Bay for the Christmas bulk waste clean up. I hope A L Thompson’s, Kirk Home Centre, Cox and others, have a good supply of appliances on hand, because traffic will be extremely heavy with a convoy of cargo heading into West Bay next week.

I hope that Fosters, Kirk Market, Hurley’s and other supermarkets will have lot’s of turkeys, coffee, sugar, creme, rice and flour…….. because the purchases and deliveries are about to happen by the politicians.

As for 345 Beer, I hope the Cayman Islands Brewery have been working overtime to meet the demand in West Bay and the outer districts. I hear that Bodden Town alone has 18 names so far, to contest the next general elections.

Merry Christmas Cayman Islands and hoping that we all can “Drain the Swamp” in May 2017.

Drain the Swamp? Not going to happen in the Cayman Islands – locals are too easy to buy off.

Hell, on the Brac, it is very obvious. All of a sudden you can see Mr. Cayman Brac Trump appearing more and more. Coincedentally, you see certain persons just going up to him and asking for $$$ – whether it be food, electricity, furniture or some Christmas cash. And when the beggars get something they advertise it to everybody and anybody.

The Queen of Watering Place is also entrenched into the Swamp – as I could swear on the Bible that I just saw PWD staff fixing up her mother’s house. Just saying!!!
But knowing this XXXX always wanna be on the winning political team person I am sure that she will be able to convince that PWD is being reimbursed for all of the cost-incurred.

While I do not necessarily agree with Mr. McKeeva, he does look out for his constituents and maybe he would give me some work – cause I am an able-bodied person and want to work.

Only way to get a job on Brac is if you are related to the right people or if you are from a certain country, can speak tagalog and repeatedly say Sir, Mam, Thank You and Please (and by the way the minimum wage in that country is US $0.61 per hour, so CI $6.00 per hour is a fortune to them.

8:05PM you are right on the spot with your comments.

Note: If you take the “n” out of the middle of Santa and put it at the end – then you get Satan.
