Jamaican crime ‘visitors’ jailed for four years

(CNS): Two Jamaican men who came to the Cayman Islands illegally and then committed an armed robbery at a variety store and cash transfer agent in Bodden Town received four years in jail Thursday. Romario Codner (22) and Paul Martin (26) arrived in Cayman illegally on a boat in August and claim they were put up to the crime by the men who brought them here. The men stole over $2,000 from D&D Accessories in the armed stick up, but the gun was never recovered so they were charged with possession of an imitation weapon.

As she delivered her ruling, visiting judge Dame Linda Dobbs found few mitigating factors in the case and handed them two 6-year sentences for the robbery and for having an imitation weapon in the joint enterprise, to run concurrently, before applying the full one third discount for their early admissions.

She also recommended that the two men be deported after serving their time.

It is obvious our prison system is trying to churn criminals out as fast as possible due to overcrowding. Two more mouths on the dinner roster – they came here by boat, please send them home by plane to serve this time!

We have enough home-grown criminals to support, our Government has to enact a law that if you are not born here you will be sent home to serve time and barred from future entry for the duration of your life.

There are over 40 non-Caymanian inmates in Nortward – that is $2.8 million of the prison budget per year!

You MLAs need to get your heads out of Dart’s *** and start addressing the true issues of our country!

You only get 6 years for armed robbery? Wtf? I thought we had minimum sentencing for gun possession? Stupid is as stupid does. And I guess we all know where our judiciary stands on protecting Caymanians.

Why are we housing these pieces of shit in our prisons. 1/10th of the cost in a Cuban prison. Rent space from GITMO

Too bad they didn’t hit someone with a car and let them bleed to death. They could have been out in 3.5 months. Or wait 1.75 months (2 people serving ya know)
