Booze board gives greenlight for NYE late opening

(CNS): All liquor licence holders in good standing have been given a blanket extension beyond regular closing times for New Year’s Eve, board officials have confirmed. As the year-end celebration falls on a Saturday night this year, the current music and dance legislation would mean that the party would be over before it began, as that law requires licensed premises to stop serving booze and cut off the music before midnight on Saturday/Sunday nights.

The Liquor Licensing Board made the decision on Monday, 5 December, that bars, restaurants and hotels will be allowed to sell liquor until 1:30am and play music until 2:00am the morning of Sunday, 1 January 2017, while nightclubs are permitted to sell liquor until 3:30am, with music and dancing going on until 4:00am for the NYE celebrations.

The board added that all other licensing stipulations will remain in effect, such as liquor sales and cutting off the music ten minutes before the premises close.

Big deal. One night a year. I wouldn’t want the Saturday laws to be changed, but New Years? C’mon, one night. If you want to be safe, stay off the roads on amateur night.

Sad that the present liquor board continues to ignore the values and religious heritage which Caymanians hold with great respect. Allowing a gas station near two schools to sell liquor is another example of this stance. The Caymanians on that board need to stand up and be counted.

Who wants to party, let them party and who wants to go to Church, go to Church. It is high time that the Sunday Law be revised, what about the Saturday keepers, should we start treating Friday night like a Saturday night?? No its not going to happen so get over it and go to Church, as far as I am concerned most that are breaking down the Church door may as well go to the Club and get drunk as they’re only Christians on Saturday or Sunday.

Cayman should be like this all the time on saturday night. That liquor rule needs to change….we can drink alll day at the bar on a sunday so really and trully it makes no sense. There are plenty of places to drink on a saturdAy night after 12 so there will be no differene in crime or road accidents

Very sorry to learn of this decision one that will be setting a precedent… we have always closed the regular time when New Years Eve has fallen on a Saturday.

Truly believe this is a preview of what is to come with these opening hours on a Saturday becoming permanent.

Come on People … Let stick to our Customs and Beliefs and call upon our Elected Members to show where their beliefs are.

NO EXTENSION on a SATURDAY NIGHT.

Actually you are not correct. This decision is the same as made by the board in 2011 in the same circumstances.

On a Sunday? Time for a Sodom and Gomorrah themed fancy dress party.
