Teen arrested after trouble at Camana Bay

(CNS): Police have arrested a teenage boy following two violent incidents involving juveniles at Camana Bay this weekend. The RCIPS said that trouble started at around 11:3 Saturday night, when police responded to a report of a fight. One youngster reported that he had been walking along Market Street when he was assaulted by several other boys and that his phone went missing during the fight. However, the gang had dispersed before on-site security personnel responded.

But around 30 minuets later near the Cinema, the boy was in another fight with one of the other juveniles, who he claimed assaulted him.

Police said both they and Camana Bay’s own security quickly intervened. The second boy was searched and then arrested on suspicion of assault, theft and possession-consumption of ganja. The arrested juvenile was wearing a shirt with what was described as profanity on it and was also warned he could be prosecuted for that too, as it is a public order offence. The youngster is currently on police bail.

The incident comes just over a month after a major street brawl near the cinema at Camana Bay, in which dozens of kids from rival schools were involved in two fights. At the time, both the police and Camana Bay security had played down the extent of the violence, but CNS readers who had witnessed some of the fighting described the scene as “mayhem”.

I usually don’t comment on these articles, but I feel compelled to, after reading some of the commenters here. I see a lot of the blame being placed at the feet of Caymanian parents. While the parents of the kids involved definitely bear a lot of the responsibility, let’s not forget that we are all responsible as well. Any successful community requires that ALL members bear responsibility to it. A lot of the parents of those kids have problems that distract them from properly engaging and raising their children properly. If society is forgetting those parents and casting them aside, then we have no one to blame for the increase in youth violence but ourselves. A great many people have come to these islands, become successful, received Cayman status or PR, have made these islands their permanent homes. But some of those people refuse to employ Caymanians, or refuse to promote Caymanians, or refuse to become truly involved in the community by volunteering at public schools or becoming mentors. There are a lot of successful people on these islands with the resources to make real meaningful contributions, but simply do not. Now I know that there a great many that do make an effort to improve our society. But my point is that we ALL have a responsibility to this community. All of us. And if you’re one of those that does not accept that, then you have no one to blame for the deterioration of this society but yourself.

With every once of my solemn opinion and advice that with such a thing as “Behavioral Profiling”, the Management of CB now needs to become 100% PROACTIVE in the security at Camana Bay as provide “Profiling” training to the existing security officers…. CLOSELY MONITOR for the TYPE of people who are on the compound, ie these young PUNKS(aka, the garbage of societies), and when identified as PUNKS, then they should me again monitored for their actions around the compound. IF ANY signs o f unruly behavior, have them removed from the premises IMMEDIATELY.

TIRED OF THESE LITTLE PUNKS RUINING EVERYTHING IN CAYMAN!!!

What about some mass brawl that took place at John Gray yesterday where a whole herd of them jumped the fence with the security guard trying to chase them. Is something going to be mentioned about this or is it also just going to be swept under the carpet as most incidences in this school are?

This youth is completely out of control………

Since there is no mention of it elsewhere, I assume it is already under the rug.

As neither I nor my family go near that school I care not one jot about what happens there, Camana Bay on the other hand is a concern and the problem youth must be kept away.

The state of our public schools will effect every single person on the island at some point. It is in EVERYONES interest to see our kids succeed in the public school system. Don’t kid yourself you, bigot.

I believe Derek Haines is head of Security for the Dart Group, (i.e. Camana Bay). If so, Derek, please nip this in the bud! These parenting-deficient young people should not be allowed to spoil the Camana Bay experience for everyone!

Old times are back again….just like the weekend teenage VIOLENCE we all had to endure around the cinema when it was at the Marquee Plaza. This just proves the point that the social issue still exist and we need MORE security at Camana Bay to detour it. These ‘Boyz” aren’t going home to Mami and gettin a lick. Mami is too busy chasing cheatin Papi. So we have to deal with it. Get your thumb out your back side Camana Bay Mgmt and start policing your city as these ignorant youth will destroy your retail businesses bottom line..

Once the sun goes down, Camana Bay is no different from anywhere else. It will very soon get the same reputation as the last cinema did. You will hear about stabbings and shootings very soon!!!

Arm the little park rangers! Unless Dart gets a grip on this rather than playing it down, the happy shiny white people with the money will desert CB and it’ll be reclaimed by the swamp.

We do not go to the Cayman Islands for our vacations any more because of all the crime. No one wants to go to a place where they might be victimized by hoodlums.

Camana Bay must do more to keep this sort of riff raff out of the development completely. They do not contribute to the business there and have markedly negative effect on the atmosphere.

Local youths are really pathetic. Parenting seems like an afterthought amongst some local parents. It’s a shame.

Why don’t CB have a cut off time for any kids under the age of 17 without an ID that they should not be on the premises after certain a time.

camana bay is becoming like nectar lounge, to many young punks running around.just a matter of time before one of them is shot there as well

For a place with such a small population, your kids are becoming a real credit to the islands. Shootings, stabbing, beatings, muggings and burglary, to name a few of the many crimes your future generations participate in.
And before some apologist clown says it happens in all country’s, well yes it does, but your tiny population makes it far more concerning.

Actually, it doesn’t happen in all countries.

While I agree in principal here, it is not necessarily their fault . Cayman, as well as many other smaller ‘ island nations’ in particular in this part of the world , lack social structure & developmental activities for their younger citizens. The geography doesn’t help. They are bound by somewhat very small borders & confinement , you couple that with the population growth , as you mentioned. While many local youngsters get involved with team sports & activities, or engage in other interests including those initiated by their parents ,that largely keep them off the streets , it is obvious that there exists a large percentage that do not. I’d be interested to hear suggestions on how this can be rectified. If you think this is a problem now , give it another 10 years of neglect and see where Cayman stands on this issue.

Cayman lacks developmental activities?! Are you nuts? There are sports, theatre, diving, bowling, an astronomy group, etc etc etc. The opportunities are endless and amazing. To suggest that there is a lack is simply wrong.

Then make it a mandatory part of the curriculum. Every minor MUST choose one of these programs to participate in… every single day after school, and again on weekends.
