Police save man from rough seas off BT beach

(CNS): The police saved a man from drowning on Friday evening after he was pulled from the rough sea at around 8pm near the Bodden Town Cemetery. The 911 Communications Centre received a report that a man was seen in distress in the sea and within minutes a marine officer responded from Coewood Beach in his personal boat, followed by Eastern District uniform officers on a Waverunner.  The marine vessel Niven D was also sent to the scene and joined the search for the drowning man in rough seas.

But it was an officer who was conducting the shoreline search that eventually spotted the man face down in the sea several feet from the beach.

The officer pulled the man from the water and administered CPR, and he regained consciousness. He was then taken to Cayman Islands Hospital, where he received further treatment and was later released.

“Thankfully the lifesaving efforts of these officers were successful,” said RCIPS Marine Commander Inspector Leo Anglin. “But this incident again demonstrates how we need more public awareness about being safe in the water. Swimming at night in rough waters is never a good idea.”

I would also say that this rescue is a real commendable job well done by Marine Officers , and also shows us the necessary need for more marine Officers from all district’s of the Islands with their own personal watercraft
I am also happy for the outcome of the victim , and hope that we all have learned something from this .

“Marine Officer responded ……… in his personal boat”. That is very commendable and demonstrates a serious individual commitment to life saving. This all took place after dark. Well done Marine Unit for an overall excellent response and result.
