Tropical Storm Otto, 22 Nov 2016

(CNS): As the late-season Tropical Storm Otto drifted towards Costa Rica and Nicaragua Tuesday, Cayman was enjoying some cooler weather after a very hot year. Global temperatures for 2016 have already broken existing heat records and 2016 is expected to be one of the Cayman Islands’ hottest as well, making the cool snap all the more welcome. Fresh northeasterly winds and rough seas are expected to continue for the next few days with isolated showers. A small craft warning remains in effect, with wave heights expected to increase tonight and tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Otto, which poses no threat to Cayman was expected to pick up speed later today as it heads for Central America. While winds were near 70mph Tuesday morning, it was expected to become a hurricane by tonight, with additional strengthening forecast through Thursday.
