Vandals knock out telecoms in Prospect for 3 days

(CNS): Around 300 homes in the Prospect area lost their television, internet and telephone services last week after equipment was vandalized. The Information & Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) is working with the police, who are now investigating what was described as an act of “extensive malicious damage on a piece of fibre network equipment” that cut telecommunications in the neighbourhood around Marina, Omega, Prospect and Whirlwind Drives.

ICTA Managing Director Alee Fa’amoe warned people that they could face a hefty fine or even jail time for damaging IT infrastructure if they are caught.

“I want to remind the public that under Section 83 of the Information and Communications Technology Authority Law (2016 Revision), it is a criminal offence to maliciously damage any ICT apparatus,” he said. “A person found guilty of this offence will be liable for fines up to CI$40,000 and/or imprisonment up to four years.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the ICTA on 946-4282 or info@icta.ky or the police at 949-4222.

So if we can be charged for damaging thier property, on prospect drive the same communication company dug up the road and only filled it with marl, well with all this rain the trench is at least 3-5 inches deep now and will damage vehicles.
So my question is can we charge these communication company’s for not repairing these trenches they have created for damaging our vehicles?

Oh and by the way this same company complaint about their damaged cable, they never asked the owner if they could put up this cable over their property. They just did it!!!

I was a bit of a handful growing up but this one is pretty stupid. Suppose a child is choking and a land line is the only way the child’s caregiver can call for help.

I hope they are caught and made to pay for the damage.
