(CNS): A West Bay man who has dodged two murder charges over the last six years is likely to be facing his first lengthy prison sentence after he admitted in court Friday to more gun related offences, just a few weeks after he was convicted of trying to take a handgun into a Bodden Town bar. Jose “Peto” Sanchez (29) pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed firearm in Cruz Lane, George Town, last June in connection with allegations that he had been trying to kill David Andrew Bodden.

Sanchez, who has been tried and acquitted of two murders — the killing nightclub security guard Aldrick Peddie in 2010 and special Olympian Solomon Webster in 2015 — is now looking at least ten years in jail, though it could be considerably longer.

Well known to the police, Sanchez is suspected of being a prominent local gangster who has been involved in gun-related violence since he was a teenager but has consistently avoided lengthy jail terms and dodged serious convictions.

Five weeks after his release from prison, where he had been on remand facing charges for Webster’s murder, he was charged with possessing a 9mm handgun that he had tried to get into the Everglo bar in Bodden Town last July, for which he was found guilty in August.

Soon after that trial, Sanchez was charged with possession of a gun in Cruz Lane, where David Bodden’s house was shot at. On Friday he also pleaded guilty to that crime and was remanded in custody to HMP Northward. He is set to be sentenced on 21 October for two convictions of possessing a handgun, which carries a minimum mandatory sentence of ten years.

Bodden had accused Sanchez and another man, Blake Burrell, of threatening to kill him over allegations relating to the murder of Solomon Webster, which led eventually to Bodden’s own conviction for unlawful wounding after he slashed Burrell’s throat in the heart of George Town last June.

According to what I see in posts about other criminals, this one cannot be “local” since he “does not have a Caymanian name”. So deport him….and anyone else not called Ebanks, Bodden, Dixon, McLauchlin, Bush, Eden, Miller, Wood, Lawrence, Bryan, Connolly, O’Connor, Kirkconnell, Foster, Merren, Thompson, Lazzari, McCoy, McLean, McTaggart, Solomon, Connor, McField etc etc. Because, clearly, we have people who think if you don’t have these names, you are not a “real Caymanian”.

Let’s use our math skills and count this up. How many times can one guy get busted having a gun before we finally lock him up and lose the key. Come on Cayman? We are not this blind are we. Ridiculous beyond words. And now he is hoping to get the big 10 Years!!! Whoaaaaaa. Every gun possession should be a twenty mandatory . A real 20 , not a Cayman 20. What is he gonna come out all rehabilitated or something. Not bloody likely.a bad egg is just that. Put him away, Do Not Let Him Out Again!! Make an example of him and follow it up with more arrests of other wanna be thugs.
