(CNS): in the fifth firearm related incident in as many days, a store clerk was robbed at gunpoint on Monday night at a small shop in West Bay. Police said the lone man entered the grocery store at Leda’s Plaza, Watercourse Road, around 8pm, brandishing his loaded firearm. He demanded cash from the 38-year-old local female employee, who was alone in the store, and fired a shot before making his escape with a small amount of CI cash and a cell phone. The suspect was described as being around 5’5” tall, having a slim build and a light brown complexion.

He was dressed in full black clothing and his face was partially covered. He was said to have spoken with a Caymanian accent. The robbery is being investigated by West Bay CID but so far no one has been arrested.

It is the fifth incident involving a weapon across Grand Cayman since Friday night, when two separate victims were mugged in the streets of George Town by armed men and another man escaped police when he left a loaded handgun hidden behind a West Bay shopping plaza. Then on Sunday night a man was shot outside a bar in the industrial area.

Anyone who has information about the West Bay robbery is asked to contact West Bay CID at 949-3990 or to remain anonymous to call Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).

Why would not each and every store have a security camera. It is cheap nowadays.

Camera, drop safe from CostULess, and a height tape on the exit – pretty standard stuff. It would also be helpful if the police actually knew what kind of questions to ask when taking a suspect description. That part is totally unacceptable!

Lets ignore this please and address the issues that really matter, like denying gay people equal rights.

I agree, 8:38. When we have public meetings about education developments for our kids or public health matters, even in large districts like George Town and West Bay less that 20 will show up (sometimes less than 10). But look at that photo in the Compass of thousands of people at the meeting in the Lions Centre cheering the non extension of equal rights to LGBT people and eagerly applauding “Bible based solutions” to things. It’s very very sad.
