Tourist mugger still on the loose

(CNS): A description of a man wanted by the police following a street robbery in South Church Street last Friday has been released and the RCIPS is asking for the public’s help to track him down. Police have now revealed that the victim, who was visiting the Cayman Islands and had her bag stolen, was also sexually assaulted. The suspect is described as around five feet tall, in his mid-teens, with a scar or cut over his right ear. He had short hair, a dark complexion and was wearing a blue short-sleeved polo shirt and dark coloured jeans.

At the time of the incident, which happened near to Sunset House at around 9pm on 26 August as the woman walked along the road, the mugger was riding a BMX style bicycle, which had a flashing red light at the rear under the seat.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen this person or who may know who this person is to contact the George Town Police Station on 949-4222 or to call the anonymous tips line Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).

Why doesn’t the police have an artist who can draw the descriptions that the victim gives, a composite sketch of the person like they draw in the US? There are many artists here on island that they can hire to do this, why oh why oh why don’t we have this feature in the Police Force in Cayman?

And why oh why oh why don’t we have a fingerprint database in Cayman? (not saying it would help this crime in particular, but it would help thousands of other crimes here in Cayman!)

Lord have Mercy! Why is our police force stuck in the Stone Age??? Can someone please tell me why???

    A tourist mugged somebody?!

It would do you good to read the article; if you did read it and came to THAT conclusion please return to elementary school.

Not wishing to diminish the significance of this happening, but in 1980/81 (in the library of the day) I recall reading of a similar incident in which a visiting tourist some decades earlier (1940/50s?) had had here handbag grabbed in George Town. They apprehended the boy and made him apologize to the lady, apparently. Does any reader recall hearing of the incident by any chance?

Shouldn’t the headline be: Rapist Mugger still on the loose?

CNS: “Sexual assault” does not necessarily mean rape.

BS police force. BS. State the crime at the time of the crime. Release perp description at time of crime. I don’t get it coppers. Explain to me a maybe I will apologize. But for now: BS.

Mr. Eden. Does this worry you more than the gays are coming to take over ?

My goodness. One might just have asked “Mr.Eden, does this worry you more than the Zika virus ……….? (Incidentally, I believe you’ve had lots of rain in the U.K. of late.)

    • Jeebus piece. says:

Of course not. Robbery and sexual assault? That’s all just normal sin in the eyes of the almighty lord, now being gay… that’s the real sin, that’s the real trouble with this island and world, hell, how could it not be? The bible says it’s abomination… and why would the bible be wrong?

THESE are the problems Cayman needs to face. NOT gay marriage lectures or arresting tourists for being rude!

    • Anonymous says:

Are you aware of the incident in South America a while back when the U.S. guy got arrested for sticking his finger up for his immigration photo? In the U.S. you would probably be shot to death for the same thing. So … “gay marriage lectures” …… what the heck is that?

Long gone for all we know.

I think we would all benefit by an identikit drawing of the person. “Dark-complexion” is somewhat nebulous. Was he a brown man? Black man? I want this guy caught. Let’s get a look at him.

Tourists are not more important than locals. However, this horrible incident will wave throughout the webs and paint The Cayman Islands with a horrible brush.

I feel so badly for the woman who visited our island and will never return. I hope and pray she will find peace, and that that peace also involves the arrest and prosecution of this thug who assaulted her.

Trip advisor won’t allow stories like this one to be discussed on its forum. All is rosey in TripAdvisor. Caymanian hawks will immediately mark any post about crime in the Cayman Islands for removal.

Have confidence that the police will soon catch the scum bag.

  11. East End Resident says:

This description should have been published much earlier. Clearly now the person responsible can be turned it, because this is a much clearer picture of the perpetrator and his crimes. What a little scumbag. And mid-teens? Clearly he’s all set up for a future of bad behavior and needs to be apprehended and stopped right now before he graduates to even worse.

  12. Veritas says:

Why was the assault omitted from the first police report?.

  13. Anonymous says:

Also sexually assaulted? This brings this crime to a totally new level! Not good, not good at all & someone knows who did this and needs to turn this scumbag in!

Give proper formation, description and it wouldve been easier to catch or find the perpetrator of this crime. Check the CCTVs.

Piece meal info doesn’t cut it.
