PPM starts campaign against Mac’s claims

(CNS): The People’s Progresssive Movement, a.k.a. the Progressives, has begun an online campaign disputing the claims that have been consistently made by Opposition Leader McKeeva Bush in various public forums about their track record. With six months to go before Nomination Day and the official start of the 2017 General Election campaign, the ruling party has already begun specifically targeting the CDP/UDP leader, accusing him of spreading “falsehoods” and taking aim at his time in office, while promoting what the party claims are the current government’s achievements.

On the party website the Progressives list a number of claims Bush has made about the PPM, from the proposed controversial cruise berthing facility to unemployment statistics. The party takes aim at the former premier, pointing to some of Bush’s more controversial moves when he was premier between 2009 and 2012.

The opposition leader has accused the PPM of being instrumental, when they were in opposition, of undermining and helping to stop the cruise berthing project that he had tried to get started. But the Progressives are hitting back, reminding voters that the UK pulled the rug on the deal with the Chinese company Bush was working on.

On their website they recap the controversial changes of plan the UDP went through, from the first failed negotiations with Dart to build the facility through to the controversial and costly cancellation of the GLF contract, and remind voters that there has still never been an explanation for why that deal was pulled directly by Bush.

“The awful track record and the action of McKeeva Bush caused the proposed UDP cruise dock project to implode, costing the country and taxpayers millions of dollars,” the PPM stated in its attack on the opposition leader.

In addition to claims about what the PPM did to him while he was leader, Busg has also condemned the PPM’s record in office, accusing them of selling government land for less than it is worth, misleading the public about the level of unemployment, and doing nothing to address what he has said is a worsening economic environment, in which people are losing their homes and their businesses.

Bush has also accused the PPM of doing nothing about the landfill in George Town — and there are many who back the opposition leader on that issue, given that with just six months left in office, the plans to introduce a new integrated waste-management solution is still some four years away.

The Progressives, however, claim they are moving ahead with the landfill and have done much more in power than Bush, who presided over a “dangerous and badly managed dump”, as they have invested in the necessary equipment and fixed the immediate mismanagement problems.

Financial impropriety and a conviction for deception are grounds for an MBE judging by recent awards.

And the Compass publishes an editorial headlined ‘The view from the sunny side’ claiming all is wonderful in these islands. Odd coincidence?

  3. McKeeva Bush says:

Cns need to check their facts. UDP or McKeeva bush has not started any campaign except to represent the people fairly
When we start it will be an official announcement.
However Ppm is on radio in the movie theatre and tv from June this year spending money criticizing UDP and McKeeva trying to sell their version of how good it is under them.

MeanWhile there are more homes, vehicles, land, being reposessed because people can’t pay for them! Econmy good ppm says!
More people lost their businesses, more people starving more people begging than ever in any govt history, much less the UDP.

As for the dump they come up with a plan for 538 million dollars and by that score it’s a good thing we not getting the cruise facility
Ya that is good economic policy alright !!!!!

Let the haters on cns (if the blogs are true) carry on,the good people in these islands will have their say for sure.

who cares…we live in a wonderland where 50% of residents cannot vote…and for the most part, the most educated and successful people on island can’t vote either….
cayman can only be saved when they allow the brightest and best to vote and be elected….

    • 8th Generation says:

Go home to vote driftwood. Please stay out of Caymanian politics as you do not have to be here nor respect Caymanians.

    • duppy rising says:

What a self absorbed, prejudiced, contemptuous, condescending and wholly undeserving individual you are. You do not deserve to be a member of the electorate of the Cayman Islands. You do not deserve to be allowed to be in the Cayman Islands with the despicable attitude you have. People such as yourself have to be identified and expelled from these shores forthwith as people such as yourself are a complete and utter hinderance to the well being of the Cayman Islands, her people, your fellow expatriates and any prospect of a viable future for this country. Take your rotten stinking attitude and shove it where the sun does not shine.

And electing your own people has worked so well for you, right? Have you read the comments on here and the prices article? Can you see anyone electable that could change that? No, neither do I. Big changes needed.

      • Anonymous says:

why?…do you not want the best?

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed, let’s face it with a Caymanian population of only 30,000 ish the choice for decent politicians is very limited. Open it up to long term residents and get the best brains involved and cayman will thrive, and Caymanians with it. Long term foreigners also need cayman to be the best place for all.

      • Anonymous says:

Long term foreigners (ie those that have been here for 15 years or only 7 if they are married to a Caymanian) are called Caymanians! If you cannot wait until you are Caymanian please take your arrogant sense of entitlement elsewhere.

I really hope you are not suggesting we allow foreigners to vote? and just when did the non-voters (I assume you mean foreigners) become the brightest and best?

Racist much? The most intelligent ones? That is a new low… I guess you like Trump as well?? Lol

      • Anonymous says:

Oh and I guess you like that corrupted liar Hilary??!? You must be Caymanian where it’s okay to be corrupt. In fact it’s almost encouraged and we all will cover for you. (Unless you’re Jeffery Webb and get caught by the US Feds. We can’t protect you now)

    • Anonymous says:

Ha! We see how well the brightest and best vote has worked for the countries that their success is based solely oppression and free labor. For if it weren’t for that you would be just another “3rd world country”.

doubt it….ppm bankrupted the country in 2008 and were then re-elected in 2013….

Thank God , hopefully Mac will never again be allowed anywhere near the public purse to plunder.

  8. Anonymous says:

UDP were destructive. PPM has been largely useless. We need a new option and new blood. Mac, Anthony Eden, Al and a good lot more need to retire, fade into obscurity and enjoy their dotage and let some young, qualified, experienced Caymanians with a different worldview and a little optimism take over the reigns.

    • Anonymous says:

Mac should certainly take his disgraced self into oblivion and stop disrupting everything just to divert attention from his own well documented inadequacies.

    • Anonymous says:

You mean ppm couldn’t be bought.

      • #REALITYCHECK says:

LOL They have been bought and paid for. You are delusional or drunk. Big business and special interests owns the PPM look at the Legal Practioners Bill then ask Wayne and Moses if their business interests have benefitted since they have become Cabinet ministers.

Look at Mac’s wealth, ask how he accumulated so much, then talk about already successful businessmen .

Ppm is doing long term damage with their work permits for everyone policy…their unemployment decrease at 1 for every12 new permits is mostly temporary ditch digging… too bad udp was so slimy.

6.58am Just admit it,you never supported PPM. YOu like loud mouth arrogant people and that is why you cannot support PPM. They have done a reasonably good job and have the islands headed in the right direction. I guess they stopped a lot of the UDP freebies and you miss that and you believe UDP will give you more freebies so you can’t wait for their return.

      • Anonymous says:

I was disgusted with the UDP…particularly it’s leader but the self interested supporters as well and voted PPM and independent…I’m still disgusted with UDP and will not forget their jet setting and nefarious dealings. However now I’m definitely discouraged by PPM. Marco and Alden are smiling and patting themselves on the back wondering why other leaders hadn’t just ignored work permit laws and increased revenue while creating temporary low end positions. The expatriated are now the entitled in Cayman.

  11. Anonymous says:

It’s too soon since Brangelexit to be worrying about all this. The grieving process has only just begun, for goodness sake. Show some respect, CNS.

  12. Anonymous says:

So it starts. Mac attack first, then expat attack ( all sides do that before elections, have they got nothing new?), then will be a UK attack, false patriotism and nothing will mean anything…and there will be nothing new.

  13. Anonymous says:

Alden, Kirk, or McKeeva will not hold the title of “Premier” come May 2017. As for the newest Independent a Members, they will all need the find another job or a hobby that pays because neither will again hold Official Office. Tara will also be ousted along with Hew. I think after these last couple of published statistical reports, Marco may have just orchestrated his own demise/exit.

Between UDP selling out this country, and PPM neglecting their constituents, I am almost certain the 2017 will be full of surprises. There will lots of movements toward the EXIT.

      • Anonymous says:

100% correct. As long as he runs he will get a seat. Same can be said for Mo$e$ (dollar signs intentional), preacher Anthony, another private business deal Kurt and I will join whatever team Julianna. These five will get a seat if they run.

We need politicians who will put Caymanians first and for better/worse that would be Mckeeva.

        Peace and Love to all,

      who’s “kirk”?

    • annonymous says:

11:31pm… I would love to agree with you but with some constituent areas low as 600 voters, many will be bought out.

So while it would be good to have some new blood…It probably not going to happen. I worry that this OMOV will prove detrimental.

Not one for parties… but I till think a national vote, or option similar to what we had in the past was best. But who am I? Really hope our country don’t live to regret it.

You might have read what they are trying to put in place now also before elections. That will force independents to become parties. All about control…

They need to stay strong. We need a coalition government to hold each other accountable. Vote for what is best for the country not party. Until then it will be a repeat and cycle will continue to swap.

It come in like they have a plan my party this term yours the next..really sad state of affairs.

udp was incompetent circus of a government…
ppm are a spineless, do nothing government…who are have done nothing but maintain the broad economic policies of the udp administration…..their ‘success’s’ are due to dart, falling oil prices, fco controls and better world economy generally……end of story.
