(CNS): Sex-crime charges in two separate high-profile cases were transmitted to the Grand Court Tuesday, when chiropractor Dr Jemal Khan’s multiple charges of indecent assault and harassment with patients and former political hopeful Errington Webster’s charges of gross indecency with an underage girl were heard in Summary Court for the last time. Both men were bailed to appear in Grand Court on 30 September, but neither man has yet answered any of the allegations against them.

Dr Jemal Khan

Khan, who has been suspended by Council for Professions Allied with Medicine (CPAM), the regulatory body that oversees his profession, has opened a new kind of alternative medicine practice called Energy Balance, which is not regulated. But an additional bail condition means that he cannot treat patients unless they sign a document demonstrating that they have given informed consent. The document states that the prospective patients are aware of his suspension by CPAM and the indecent assault and related charges against 14 former female patients and that the document can be shown to police on demand.

Meanwhile, Webster remains on strict bail conditions and a doorstep curfew at a family member’s home in North Side. He is not allowed to go to Bodden Town, where he lives and where the alleged crimes were said to have been committed.

A third suspect sex offender who has been on remand since May was due to answer charges against him for the possession of thousands of pornographic images of children.

Trevorne Daley, a Jamaican national who was working at Burger King before he was arrested, appeared in court via video link from HMP Northward but his defence attorney asked for one more adjournment in order to discuss the case with her client before he enters any pleas to the ten counts he faces.
