(CNS): A 37-year-old woman has been charged with arson in connection with a house fire in Cruz Lane, George Town, last month in which three homes were understood to have been completely destroyed. The fire, which claimed the small wooden structures, impacted at least three families, who are now being supported by social services. From the beginning the victims stated they believed the fire was deliberately set. Police said the suspect was charged yesterday (Wednesday 10 August) with starting the blaze and was due in court Thursday.

The fire happened on 31 July in the early hours of the morning when the residents were asleep in their beds. Fortunately, none of the family members were hurt, though two special constables who were part of the first responder’s team were treated in hospital for smoke inhalation
