Cayman Islands Courts, George Town

(CNS): A jury found a local woman guilty of damaging her former husband’s car with a potted plant and causing almost $7,000 worth of damage. Ava Glasgow, who was convicted of damage to property last week and is expected to be sentenced next month, is very unlikely to receive any kind of custodial sentence but will be expected to cover the cost of the damage. Glasgow had denied smashing up the Honda parked outside of her ex-husband’s house because of a disputed child custody battle. She accused the father of her daughter of throwing the plant pot himself in order to set her up.

However, the jury was not convinced and took just an hour and a half to decide she was guilty after a short trial, in which Glasgow, her former husband and his current wife took the stand and detailed the incident that happened in Savannah last year.

Although Glasgow had tried to reveal the background of an acrimonious and volatile relationship between the couple, the judge had insisted the case was about how the car was damaged and not what appeared to be a protracted domestic dispute between the couple.

The jury heard that Glasgow had set off walking from Crewe Road to her ex-husband’s home in Savannah at midnight because she did not have a car. Glasgow had denied being angry but said she was concerned for the welfare of her daughter. The father had custody of the girl at the time.

Her dishonest defence and lack of acceptance of her criminality means she should be jailed.

Deportation order? I hear all this ya crime is from people that got status in 2003.

A Cayman jury finally hears a story from a defendant that was unbelievable. Who wudda thunk it.

In society, there are times when individuals may need to take anger management classes. In most cases, i believe, the first step is to admit you have a problem and the second step is to seek professional help.

Good! Women get away with too much in cayman! Those little roses can turn into insatiable beasts at time……

You are so right, they get away with so much. A woman in this country can beat a man, then have him charged with lies. If the man tries to defend himself, he is the one to be charged.

So much discrimination against men, but politicians and the authorities are too afraid to address the problem. The authorities go so far as to cover up information against women abusers and courts don’t hold them accountable for false allegations or perjury. The rcips and dpp don’t appear to believe it’s in the public interest to prosecute women (especially white women) so the problem has become a virtual epidemic. The media makes matters worse by highlighting incidents of males against women assaults and ignoring the other side of the coin. At least this article is some solace.

There is so much false information pretending that women are oppressed, when the average man knows this to be completely false.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Men you need to treat a woman right even when there is no mend. Women think twice before you act foolish.

Sexism at it’s finest. How about those women treat their men right too?

    • Anonymous says:

The way the man treated her is totally irrelevant to her crime.
Unless you are suggesting women should be regarded as irrational toddlers?

A lesson-let the courts sort out your domestic disputes..never take them into your own hands. It just costs more money and gets increasingly vicious.
