(CNS): A 34-year-old man from George Town is the latest suspect to be charged in relation to increasing local gun crime and is expected to appear in court Friday morning. Police said that the man has been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent, and possession of an unlicensed firearm in connection with a shooting that happened near Grescott Lane in the Rockhole area of the capital on 7 August at around 3:25 in the morning. The victim was taken to hospital before police arrived.

No details relating to the circumstances or possible motive have been released, nor has there been any indication on the status of the victim, who was believed to have been treated at George Town Hospital for more than one gunshot wound.

So far this year, the police have recovered nine illegal firearms following some dangerous street scenarios. They have also dealt with dozens of firearms-related reports, from the sound of gunshots in the capital to armed robberies. As a result, Acting Police Commissioner Anthony Ennis has refocused on tackling gun violence, with an emphasis on preventing the weapons from getting in to Cayman by partnering with other law enforcement agencies.
