RCIPS traffic block

(CNS): Police officers who stopped a car during a proactive traffic operation yesterday found vegetable matter resembling ganja and a machete after searching the vehicle. The officers stopped the white Honda Civic at around 10:00am on Tuesday, 12 July, on Bodden Town Road, for excessive window tinting but they then searched the car because the two people inside were acting suspiciously, police said. The driver, a 36-year-old woman from West Bay, was arrested for possession and consumption of ganja and possession of an offensive weapon. The 24-year-old male passenger, also from West Bay, was arrested on suspicion of ganja possession and consumption.

The police also issued eleven tickets for various traffic offences during the course of the operation.

“Proactive operations will continue throughout the Eastern Districts focusing on traffic misdemeanors and criminal activities,” said Inspector Dwayne Jones, the Deputy Commander for the Eastern Districts, as he thanked members of the public for their cooperation and assistance with the efforts of his officers.

anybody with a tinted number plate cover….should be stopped, strip searched, house/car searched…. named and shamed…

Good thing you’re not a law enforcement official.

      • StopJustifyingBS says:

Why do you need to tint your license plate cover if you aren’t doing anything shady? I could wear a ski-mask to the cinema for no reason, but what would people think?

  2. KeepUrTwoSense. says:

Ok. So what about certain government vehicles? I’m guessing Customs and the Police have their own regulations. Come on, clean up your yard before you try and clean up anyone else’s. I’m all for the tint regulations but it has to be fair play across the board.

    • Anonymous says:

I’m guessing the Police and Customs have a valid reason for tint, like when they are carry firearms, drugs and the kind of stuff that’s best not paraded around. Besides having 2 foot high lettering on the side of the van telling everyone who’s inside kind of negates the need to be able to see in. I’m taking their word for it….

No law enforcement agency carries more weapons than the USG and I see them with no tint…anyway show me where regulations state they can have government vehicles tinted. Please do

Presumably the 11 tickets issued can then be added to the other 1,300 outstanding warrants.

Now I have a comment and a couple questions. Good that the police are now back on the road. Great job so far Mr Innis. However, are the police now going to use the phrase “Acting suspiciously” to make it legal for them to search whomever they want for no real reason? Granted they were lucky this time but I lived in England under the “Sus” law (Suspition) and the amount of times they stopped me or friends for simply exiting a “posh” store like Harrods, and searching our bags using the phrase “appeared to be acting suspiciously” I cannot count. That is a code for harassment.
Dark tints – I know some people use migraines as an excuse for dark tint. I get migraines but do not think I would use that as an excuse. Wear dark shades people. If an officer approaches a dark tinted car and he cannot see who is in it, his changes of being ambushed are greater. I say, NO DARK tints for the safety of our officers.
Last – it also lets us see when the men are driving around with their sweethearts while their wives think they at work LOL LOL

    • Jotnar says:

So to be clear, your position is that its ok for them to search tinted vehicles because that in itself is suspicious, but not to search people that they think are acting suspiciously? And what is your position on men driving around with women when they should be at work, but not in a tinted car? Is that also suspicious? Perhaps you could set out a list of what constitutes “real reason” for suspicion – sure Mr Innis would find that helpful.

  6. Constable Savage says:

I trust Mr Kodogo was also charged with being in possession of an offensive wife, wearing a loud shirt in a built up area in the hours of darkness and walking on the cracks in the pavement.

wow… I can see it now. Police stats up … 16 separate ‘successes’!

I have dark tint for medical purposes AND YES IT HELPS with the excessive heat whena car is closed up all day while im at WORK and i also have the plate cover on my plates tinted as well BUT THEY ARE VERY VISABLE ive had them on the same plates/ car for over 12 years my plates are like brand new unlike the plates uncovered that are barely ledgeble from the elements some ive seen are completely silver and need replacing at $60 hello i spent $5 on plate covers and $150.00 tinting my car it saved my interior keeps me cool AND I DONT DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL ??

    • Anonymous says:

Your bad spelling and lack of punctuation should be illegal.

    • Jotnar says:

First, it doesn’t matter how clear your plates are if you cover them so they are unreadable, second it doesn’t matter if other road users plates are as bad or worse than yours – others breaking the law doesn’t give you a licence to do so, third it doesn’t matter why you use dark tint that breaks the regulations – you are still breaking the regulations, fourth, whether you have been caught by the police or not in 12 years has no relevance to whether you are breaking the law, and finally, doesn’t matter if you type it in CAPS or not, you ARE doing something illegal.

      you are a grade A muppett…..

time to start racial profiling of all west indians…..

its about time KEEP it UP. Law abiding people have nothing to fear or worry about being stopped . This will stop a lot of illegal behavior .

  10. Anonymous says:

time for a gangster crackdown…their tinted cars are easy to spot….

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed. Police Hint: The main sign that you are “up to no good”…. tinted licence plates.

  11. Anonymous says:

Good. It’s almost a given that if you have dark tint on your car windows then you probably have something to hide – illegal or not. So the police could well stop every car that has excessive tint – and there are plenty of them – because that alone is breaking the law – and then they’ll probably go on to find all sorts of other “goodies” in the car. There’s no need for dark tint – the lighting on many of the roads is so poor that at night it’s hard to see what’s coming. I know – I always had to drive with my windows open at night until I discovered I was able to peel off the tint myself.

    • Anonymous says:

I suppose you haven’t seen the dark tint on police officers personal vehicles. So why they don’t remove theirs? Who policing theM?

    • Anonymous says:

I see you forgot about the hot sun during the day.

      • Anonymous says:

Nobody said you can’t have tint – just not tint that completely blacks out the window. And please don’t try to insist that that is the only reason people have black tint on their windows… they have it because they’re wannabe “gangstas”.

And yes – the police can take their excessive tint off too while they’re about it.

  12. Anonymous says:

    Machetes are offensive?

  13. Anonymous says:

There are so many cars running around this island-especially Bodden Town- with obviously illegal window tint it would make you weep with frustration. But they go on and on and on and are never stopped by the cops.

    • Anonymous says:

Now you would of thought the fellas at DVDL Inspection Dept would have that sorted every 12 months right? Do people really remove tint before inspection and reapply it after is that what we are expected to believe? Oh sorry I forgot they are too busy trashing Toyotas…..

  14. Anonymous says:

Nicely done RCIPS … Keep at it and don’t be discouraged..

  15. Anonymous says:

Why waste time? Just pull over the dark tinted windowed cars with the dark tinted license plate covers and search them.

  16. Anonymous says:

Completely agree with this approach. Big Brother is Watching. Maybe people will start obeying the law.

  17. Anonymous says:

What constitutes acting suspiciously? Is it legal to search the car?

  18. Anonymous says:

    KEEP IT UP.
