(CNS): Around 1,700 CUC customers in West Bay were without power for varying periods Wednesday night in the second major outage in the last five days. The supply was cut at 7:24pm due to a pole fire in West Church Street but it was not until after midnight Thursday that customers close to the fire had their electricity reconnected. The power outages impacted various parts of the district, from the West Church Street area where the fire was, near Pearlies Lane, across to Willie Farrington Drive, Elizabeth Street, Town Hall Road, Northwest Point Road, Watercourse Road and Hell Road.

A release from CUC said that its crews were dispatched to the scene within ten minutes to assess the damage and begin repairs. The majority of customers were restored by 8:30pm, CUC said, but customers living in the immediate area were without power until around 12:20am as a result of extensive pole line hardware replacement. CUC apologised for the inconvenience the outage caused.

CNS has also made enquiries regarding another outage on Friday evening that impacted not only West Bay but several other areas of Grand Cayman. Officials said details of that outage would be release when the report on the details was complete.

What about all the Red Bay residents that had no power last night. it went off around 7:40 and came back on at around 1130PM. Same cause or different issue?

I have to very honest in saying , I don’t understand why some people think they can write such racist comments .
I know that DIVISION among the people of Cayman has been around for a long time, but it sounds like it has gotten worse over past few years .
It would be better for us to understand what is causing DIVISION so that we all can correct it and live together in a small island, we must STOP thinking that one person is better than the other .

where is this ‘racist’ comment you mention? i cannot see where race was raised in any of the comments below. i think you are the one being dramatic here and causing division. using the word Racist is a strong word that provokes – don’t use it unless its truly justified or else you are just inciting division.

What we need, is a law passed for off grid solar power. No more black outs, but may piss of some CUC shareholders.

They let 3 year-olds leave comments now? How childish and rude. Poor attempt at being funny.

Idiots like you should be banned from using the Internet.

    • Fancey says:

Why in West Bay ? We are people just like you and also with young kids. Maybe yours should be cut for good !

      • Anonymous says:

Because your young male population 16-40 are a waste of space. They produce children that they don’t take care nor maintain and show up randomly. They try to perpetuate this image of being black American gangsters. Yet most of them originated from middle class families and have yet to miss a meal in life. The drug use and subsequent problems are all self – imposed.

So maybe it is not only West Bay. They sure do seem to congregate there.
