Cayman News Service(CNS): A woman was robbed outside her home in South Sound early Monday morning by two masked men, one of whom was armed with a knife. Police said that the mugging happened at about 2:00 this morning (30 May) on South Sound Road in the vicinity of Crewe Road. As the woman arrived home she was followed into the entryway of the house by the suspects, who were both around 5’9”.  They grabbed the victim’s handbag and then ran off on foot, police said, adding that the woman was not hurt during the ordeal.

The incident comes just over one week after a man was robbed virtually on the doorstep of his home in Bodden Town by two armed men with a gun in the early hours of the morning as he got home to his house in Hirst Road.

Anyone with information about this latest incident is encouraged to call George Town CID at 949-4222.  Anonymous tips can be provided via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers at 800-8477(TIPS).

    Female, coming home alone, 2AM!

Bad idea. Sorry, but we got to have better sense than this.

No way am I out on the road that time of morning.

So now females aren’t allowed to go anywhere alone after dark? Wow. The problem here is the rampant crime the CIG and RCIPS seem okay with.

      some people work shift work

    • Anonymous says:

Sure blame the victim. That is really helpful (sarcasm). Next you will say it happened because her ankles were showing.

So Leila, as women, we’re now not supposed to work outside of the home after 9PM?? That’s about the time that some get home from work in the service industry.
I hope you have better sense than that!

Thank God your safe. We were all worried.

Again, another vague story reported. I am sure CNS reports what they are told but shouldn’t we know the complex so maybe if someone saw something they could say something? Seems we need to carry mace with us everywhere we go… oh wait.

Get a dog, a taser, a baseball bat, small travel bottle of cheap aerosol hair spray, keep snakes around and throw it on them.

If this was in west bay youd never hear the end of it.

    • Anonymous says:

That is because everyone knows it is normal behavior for the waste of space west bay boys to harass people and feel entitled.

  5. Anonymous says:

This behavior is the new normal for Grand Cayman Islands !!!!!!!!!!

What did we expect when we imported thousands of unvetted persons from jurisdictions where crime is rife and at the same time destroyed our education systems and forced our less skilled labour and school-leavers to compete with university educated Filippinos for the most basic entry-level positions.

      • Anonymous says:

Then why don’t the Cayman politicians encourage education and then the Cayman people can compete with University educations. A university education is the new high school. Everyone has one, so you better have more than just that to get a job.

        • Anonymous says:

University education isn’t for everyone and neither is it a pre-requisite for success. Stop spewing nonsense.

          • Anonymous says:

It is definitely a perfectly reasonable basis to choose between someone who has versus someone who does not. In my company I will choose the best and only the best. Someone who does not have the experience and does not have the education background but is Caymanian versus an expat that has both. Well the expat will be chosen. However, if the Caymanian has exactly the same as the expat, then the Caymanian has a chance.

While you say university is not for everyone, you have to meet the minimum basis and you cannot expect to be a superstar without something to back you up. Nationality cannot be your only reason for being hired. Yes there are superstars that have succeeded without an education, they are not the norm, they are an anomaly. Teach your child to shoot for the stars and not just muddle through life expecting to be granted things.

No country on earth requires their school leavers to compete with experienced foreign nationals with University Degrees for entry level positions. Cayman is alone on that front, and on that basis, we have destroyed the job ladder at the very first rung!

          • Anonymous says:

You don’t get around much do you? This happens all over the world. It’s not about expat versus local. All over the world, it is about the most experienced/educated for the least amount of pay.

It is about business and the bottom line. Money. Businesses are not charities.

In the UK, for example, can a Filipino get a job at a fast food restaurant? NO! Jobs are reserved for Europeans and (after a Brexit) for Brits. Cayman is the only country in the world where locals have to compete with everyone, from everywhere.

              • Anonymous says:

Wait…..are you saying that low-skilled jobs should be reserved for Caymanians only?

All that does is to teach Caymanians that they don’t need to excel and better themselves because they can always get a job at Burger King, or be a shop clerk.

Meanwhile, the Filipinos and other university educated ‘furriners’ are now free to apply for and accept the higher skilled and higher paying jobs. Jobs that we discourage Caymanians from striving for because we’ve reserved a low-skilled job for them. So it doesn’t matter if they are an abysmal failure in school? There’s an entry level position/menial job waiting for each and every one of them.

                What a great future.

      • Anonymous says:

And all of them got jobs working for Caymanians because? Just because everyone is smarter than you doesn’t mean you have to be a racist.

      • Anonymous says:

It looks like the individuals with less skills and school leavers will have to figure something out. Once upon a time the Cayman men left the island to find work.

School leavers – I hope you meant graduates. If it was intended to be the public high school leavers, they need to be classified as no skilled and either further their education or leave the island for better opportunities.

Or rob everyone blind like they are doing to survive in their own country. How educated do you need to be to drive a forklift or stock a shelf.
