(CNS): Two civilian employees of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service have been arrested on suspicion of theft. The staff members, who are understood to work in the Financial Administration Unit handling accounts receivable/payable, are both women, aged 37 and 41. They were arrested on 31 March and 1 April but the police had not volunteered this information. CNS contacted the RCIPS this week about the arrests, which were confirmed by a police spokesperson on Tuesday, 3 May, a month after the women were arrested and suspended from their jobs.

The allegations are related to transactions that were said to have been conducted by the women using an account the RCIPS holds with a private vendor. The woman are now on police bail while the matter is under investigation.

CNS note: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that the two women were working for the Financial Crimes Unit.
