Law reformers seek input on bullying and consumer rights

Cayman News Service(CNS): The public is being urged to submit their thoughts, comments and relevant research on two new areas of proposed legislation. The Law Reform Commission is asking for input on how government can tackle the problem of bulling, especially in the school environment and online, as well as contributions to a proposed consumer protection law. In January the commission published a paper laying out the ways the scourge of bullying could be addressed, asking whether a comprehensive strategy for bullying should be grounded in enacting appropriate legislation, formulating policies or a combination of both.

Meanwhile, after releasing the discussion paper on consumer protection in December, the commission is also asking the community to submit their thoughts on those proposals to provide a new regime to protect people from unfair commercial transactions.

Both papers can be found on the Law Reform Commission website here

Submissions are required by 3 June for both issues and should be forwarded in writing by post or hand to:

Director of the Law Reform Commission

Start with our esteemed MLAs and other high ranking officials. Last time I checked publicly berating a member of your staff and then calling her “f***ing driftwood”, is considered bullying. Then, our esteemed Premier doing nothing about it? Talk is cheap, my friends. No law will deter this sort of behavior if you don’t practice it yourself.

Remember, if you bully gay kids in your home, schools, and congregations in the name of Jesus, it’s okay. In fact all hate in the name of God is permissible.

Will this apply to Ezzard and his blustering buddy in EE? Surely they are the two biggest bullies on this island.

Cell phones should not be allowed in school. SIMPLE.

They weren’t allowed when I was there; should be the same today.

If there is an emergency, the school contacts the parent/guardian to notify them accordingly.

Really a huge distraction for children to have cell phones at school.

My comment – don’t waste time if you don’t intend to enforce this law

  5. Sharkey says:

They knows what bullying is and they should not have to ask people to comment on it , just get to work and make the Law and make sure it covers everyone including the one that make it.

There’s also bullying in the workplace where aging foreign trailer park women who come here as “managers” enjoy mistreating younger women just to secure their ongoing employment.

I can’t help but laugh at this. But it is true! You see this time and time again!

It also happens when there are individuals who bring in loads of revenue and treat the rest of the staff as they wish because they know nothing will happen to them. They bring in all the money!

        Racist.

Call me sexist or misogynist, but foreign trailer park women are not a “race”…….

          • Anonymous says:

No but using the term ‘foreign’ you are setting yourself up for a racism claim because unless you are talking about Caribbean people of colour who have lived in trailers, then you are on sticky ground my bigoted friend.
So let’s get to the elephant in the room, what you really mean and are too cowardly to say because you hide your closet racism behind ‘anonymous’ posts, is that white trailer trash managers are the issue to which you refer.
Well that’s your opinion, but that kind of opinion in any civilised country would be considered racist and definitely xenophobic. In effect you are guilty of bullying another nationality, race and culture to make a pathetic comment and to promote your own superiority complex.
But hey, this is the Cayman Islands, surely you can only be guilty if you’re ‘driftwood’ or a ‘foreigner’, Caymanians are far too polite, welcoming and generous to be hypocritical, bigoted, envious, racist, xenophobic clowns.

America is where trailer parks breed trailer trash..you feel a little better now after your silly rant..?

              • Anonymous says:

And that is a foreign country, you xenophobic, ignorant ass.

                • Lizzie says:

Oh, don’t get your panties in a twist boys; fact is we aren’t civilized here, isn’t that what you WANT to hear?

We don’t like foreign people who look down at us and envy us because we can’t be deported. We also don’t like being generalized as “racist”, “bigots” etc. because we are certainly not all like that.

Also, you have these people wherever you go in the world, so what is your point!????

Get off your high horse; welcome to Cayman, we’re nice, friendly but don’t take our kindness for weakness. Our bite is worse than our bark!

This isn’t a you vs. me thing; this is a “respect my countrymen in my country” i.e respect Caymanians.

Stop using our opinions to cast a shadow on all of us. You my dear foreign “friend” are the ignorant one. You speak of the poster “hiding” behind an anonymous title; yet you did the same thing!

Just stop the unnecessary propaganda of hatred towards the natives.
