Former CONCACAF President Jeff Webb

(CNS): Cayman’s fallen football hero, Jeffrey Webb, is facing a lifetime ban from the sport as FIFA’s adjudicatory chamber of the Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert, opened formal proceedings against him this week. The ethics case is based on the final report of the investigatory chamber, which recommends that Webb, a former president of CONCACAF and CIFA, and a former VP of FIFA, should be banned for life from all football-related activities for a catalogue of violations of the association’s code of ethics.

FIFA said in a release that Webb would be invited to submit his position with regard to the final report of the investigatory chamber and may request a hearing.

Webb (54), from the Cayman Islands, pleaded guilty in New York last November to racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies in relation to the massive FIFA probe undertaken by the US authorities. He remains under house arrest at his luxury home, near Atlanta, Georgia, and he is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

He also faces charges here in Cayman in relation to a major corruption case, for which his long-time friend and business partner, Canover Watson, was found guilty of five corruption related charges and handed a seven-year jail term last month.

CNS has learned that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be seeking Webb’s extradition to Cayman to stand trial in the same case but the timing of that application will depend on the outcome of his sentence in the United States.

He was raised in a country that condones payoffs and bribery so its really not his fault, when some other culture deems his behavior bad. He did not do wrong in his eyes so he can only have remorse for getting caught..

Funny I don’t hear all those good wishes and “we will keep you in our prayers” for Jeffrey anymore. Where are all those “friends” that swore his innocence? I guess Jeffrey will see who his real friends are now.

They are hoping that by remaining quiet and not to draw any attention to them, everyone will soon forget how they potentially benefited from that “friendship”.

The eerie silence might indicate a lot of praying behind closed doors.

  3. Sharkey says:

CNS , it should have said Cayman falling football crook , not hero , remember he didn’t have a shoe box of trophies, but had big bank accounts.

  4. Anonymous says:

He should not want to see a football again much less kick one. All his property gained from fraud and money laundering should be confiscated to help fight crime. On top of that he should serve a minimum of seventy five years in prison.

    • Lue says:

He didn’t act alone, and to be honest I hope they take down ALL involved. Greed is rampant in these islands. Shockingly enough greed stemming from some of the highest paid in Cayman. (sic)

CIFA elections will be held May 28, 2016. Be aware of who might be running on behalf of JW and the current CIFA board. Believe me JW is working behind the lines. Why do anyone think Bruce Blake in not standing for the position? They want to install someone they can manage and pretend it is not so, this is done all over the world by JW associates.
Member clubs, be smart, open your eyes WIDE OPEN.

Webb was just one of the conspirators in Cayman . A lot of money was stolen from CIFA and no one but no one at CIFA is doing anything about it. You have all seen the 1525 square foot building on the TV. The accounts show it cost $750,000. Now you workout the maths. Certainly the auditors did not look into it. And that is just one of the problems.
With no government funding who on earth will sponsor them? It is an unmitigated disaster.
Fire the entire executive committee and go sue the conspirators and get the money back. Webb was arrested almost a year ago and what has Bruce Flake done? NOTHING?
The meeting in two weeks will be a fiasco. This is so sad when you think about other sports in Cayman which are run so well by unselfish people donating their time and money. To name but a few try, cricket, tennis, squash, field hockey, rugby, basketball, swimming, athletics .
Football remains the most popular sport in Cayman. Surely there is a hero out there that can roll up his or her sleeve up and sort this crap out.

Surely the firm of Quantity surveyors overseeing the expenditure would have noticed, there must have been handsome fees there.

        • Chris Johnson says:

They would not have seen the accounting records and thus had no idea about the creative accounting that took place.

How does a 1525 sq foot building cost $750,000 in Prospect?? What CIFA exec. thought that was a good idea

        • Anonymous says:

And that my friend is the question the Quantity surveyors should have asked

          • Chris Johnson says:

As I tried to explain before the QS did not see the books. They approved the bills as they came in. How would they know about other payments that were wrong?

            • Anonymous says:

C’mon…they know how much units of construction should cost, otherwise nothing to measure against to “approve bills as they came in “. Why have a QS approving bills then..?
Methinks there’s a smell being covered up

              • Chris Johnson says:

I am sure you are correct. I am taking no prisoners.

All I am saying is that it don’t pass the sniff test.

      • B.M. says:

How can you mention swimming when they cannot even run a proper sprint event for the little ones. Delay after delay after delay and don’t get me talking about the other events. They are a sad lot too fixated on ego and power without any regard for the kids, parents or volunteers whose time they often wasted.

The only football related activities allowed are those in the exercise yard at HMP Northward.

He should sell all his possessions and give them back to the children he stole them from. He should have to start all over again with being banned from football as well. No mercy…but he is not worried as most all fraudsters in or from Cayman are forgiven overnight. I’m sure his buddy in Northward has already received many gifts of comfort from his friends and family. He is thief that stole from his own people.

    • Anonymous says:

Webb stole from the children and future generation of the Cayman Islands. Ban from fifa? The scum should be in jail.

      • Anonymous says:

So should his [political] enablers and followers who also picked up a few dollars for looking the other way.

      • Anon says:

Well um, don’t you know he’s being sentenced in June this year; might want o hold on to your knickers love. It’s about to get real shady around here.

  11. Anonymous says:

Webb should ban himself and not need FIFA to tell him so.

  12. Knot S Smart says:

Jeffy you are hereby banned from holding a football, kicking a football, or even seeing a football…
