Burger King on Walkers Rd, George Town

(CNS): UPDATED: Two employees of the Burger King restaurant on Walkers Road in George Town were robbed at gunpoint in the car park after they finished work Wednesday. The stick-up was reported to the authorities around 11:45pm that night, police said. The robbers attempted to force the staff members, one male and one female, to let them into the fast-food place but when it was clear they could not gain access the armed men took the handbag from the woman before running off

Police said that no shots were fired and neither of the victims were physically harmed during the robbery but both of the suspects were carrying what were believed to be hand guns.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the Burger King, along Academy Way or in the environs of UCCI around midnight Wednesday night/Thursday morning (11-12 May) or who may have any information is encouraged to please call George Town CID at 949-4222 while anonymous tips can be provided via the Miami-based call centre of Crime Stoppers.

What I find seriously concerning is that less than a week prior at the same Burger King location a man was reported lurking around the area with a gun by a staff member working late spraying the building. The worker on duty was in fear of being robbed and immediately ran into Burger King and locked the doors and called the police. he then went to the rubis gas station where I saw him surrounded by staff in utter shock on the phone with 911. As this incident had been reported a week before this robbery took place why is it police or not on high alert in this area as this could have been prevented due to the report a week earlier of a similar incident almost taking place.

I never saw anything in the media anout a case in northsound estates last week. I may be wrong about it not being reported but i heard a man asleep on his boat was awoken bound and beaten while being asked for money. Was this crime exposed to the media. Scary times. CNS?

Seeing as this is the 3rd, 4th or 5th time this BK has been robbed, perhaps some CCTV in the area might help deter any further attempts? Oh wait……

This is not the Cayman the DOT markets. That Cayman has long gone and over with. Soon heritage days will have a completely different meaning. Cayman Thanksgiving will be for giving thanks to DART and other Private Investors and hopefully a crime free country. Model Singapore in all ways…………..CANE these criminals in public prior to large minimum sentences.

Comparisons with Singapore are no more helpful than say Switzerland or any other place that is perceived to have lower crime. We have a very different societal make-up and let’s face it the quality of our political leaders and civil servants is not on par with Singapore.

We need to refocus on education stop blaming outsiders for what is going on. This problem didn’t develop overnight and it will take a generation to fix it. If we are not prepared to do the hard yards involved we will continue to slide back.

DOT will claim that we are “A relatively safe place to visit”. Who are we comparing ourselves to? Relative to Jamaica and Honduras perhaps. We need to be careful where we compare ourselves as that is where we might end up.

Two robberies on Walkers Rd. within a week. Any chance RCIP will step up patrols in the area?

Word on the street is they got help from a nearby apartment complex. It takes a community.

Wow. So these poor folks got robbed on both sides. First by making minimum wage and them the lowlifes with the guns took that away too.

    Stay classy Cayman.

And Mac is just getting started! He has young, educated followers who will perpetuate these policies, if they get elected next year!

        • SSM345 says:

There is nothing educated in a persons decision to follow Mac whatsoever, and if you are from a younger generation and think he is the savior, then you need an education more than ever.
