Canoe intercepted by the RCIPS on 4 February

(CNS): Two men who have admitted smuggling almost 200lbs of ganja into the Cayman Islands have denied attempting to bring in an unlicensed gun at the same time. Clibland Swaby Powery (31) from George Town and Marlon Crowe (33) from Jamaica pleaded guilty on Friday to drug trafficking but not guilty to importing a Smith and Weston with 50 rounds of ammunition after they were caught at sea with the ganja on an unlicensed vessel in February.

The two men were remanded in custody along with a third man from West Bay, Leon Hydes (34), who has not yet answered the same charges. All three men were arrested by officers aboard the Joint Marine Unit’s vessel, the Guardian, when they were found drifting at sea off the coast of East End on 4 February.

No trial date has yet been set but the men are expected back in court later this month.
