Kenneth Bryan

(CNS): Kenneth Bryan, the outspoken former political assistant to the premier, is the latest casualty from Rooster’s breakfast talk show. Randy Merren, the owner of Hurley’s Media, has replaced Bryan with an old star from the show, Barrie Quappe, who had been dumped by Hurleys in 2006. Making no mention of why Bryan was canned from CrossTalk, Merren lauded Quappe’s return to the microphone alongside co-host Woody DaCosta .

“I’m delighted to welcome Barrie back to CrossTalk. She was an honest, capable and impartial interviewer who was widely respected by her guests when she originally hosted the show. With the broad experience she’s gained in the past decade in all facets of the community, I expect even greater things from her moving forward with Woody,” Merren said.

Since she was dropped from the show in 2006 in favour of Ellio Solomon and Austin Harris, who also became one of a number of casualties from the show, Quappe, a former nurse, has been working in government and most recently held the post of Health Practice and Facilities Inspector for medical facilities.

Bryan, who remained tight lipped about the reasons he believed he had been dropped from the early morning call-in show, said it had been a pleasure serving listeners in the morning discussing topical issues. “I’m saddened that the choice was taken to let me go from the show as I believe the show was just getting back to a place it needed to be — a show that addressed any and every issue,” he said.

Wishing the owners of the Hurley’s Media the best, he said it was very important that the people of the Cayman Islands have a platform to discuss important issues.

“I want to ensure everyone that I will continue to evaluate, debate and constructively critique the issues of the country on behalf of the people in any other platform available to me,” Bryan said.

A PPM candidate for George Town at the last election, Bryan has since fallen out with his former political colleagues after he was sacked by the premier after he was arrested following an altercation in a nightclub car park in 2014. However, the former TV reporter still has political ambitions and is likely to appear on the ballot sheet in one of the capital’s seven new seats at the 2017 election as an independent.

    Funny, no-one has mentioned Gilbert.

  2. Colonialist says:

All this means is the PPM will now have their own radio station to pontificate their colonial views and wishes for Cayman and with talk show host to match.Barrie Quappe Randy are you for real bro????

  3. Anonymous says:

I stopped listening to that show ages ago. Between the never-ending rambles of the hosts loving the sound of their own voice, and the fact that it became more and more evident how out of touch our Government is with reality when listening to those politicians who made an appearance on the show, my blood pressure was way too high by the time I reached work!

  4. Didnt Mr Yohan Moxam foretell this less than a week ago on air to Kenneth! just lost another listener.

  5. Anonymous says:

What is regrettable is the rubbish spewed on air by the hosts and guests. If you are a voter then you are correct in whatever ridiculous piffle you wish to spread out along the airwaves. The concept of conflict of interest does not compute in Cayman.

  6. Anonymous says:

Yes, Kenneth might be a bit biased but he’s smart, has a good radio voice. Woody, on the other hand….I have trouble listening to his poor pronunciation and over the top boyish light weightness. Can we get two good hosts at the same time?

  7. 345 says:

We need the “Jordanian” and “Number 1 from the Brac” for true enlightenment.

The worse kind of discrimination is from your own people. If the UK had control over Cayman finance maybe only then we can balance our buget . Get ready people Cayman will be independent real soon.

    • Anonymous says:

Independent, really..? Then You better hone your rope and thatch making skills, and your fancy car on borrowed money….that’ll have to go along with all that other stuff you take for granted.

    • Anonymous says:

…and who will balance the UK’s budget?

What many fail to realise is that our long term finances are, and have remained, in far greater standing than the UK as they rely on quantitative easing to “balance” their books.

Seek understanding before engaging your mouth … or fingers.

      • The UK don’t have to borrow money from the imf like the Cayman Government who have over 1.5 trillion passing through the island anually and can’t still feed their own people let alone educate them.

        • Anonymous says:

The money that passes through does not belong to us, sorry to get educated you actually have to go to school and pay attention…every day.

        • Jotnar says:

Perhaps they could start with your education, since Cayman has borrowed 0 dollars from the IMF, nor could they since Cayman does not have any SDRs not being a sovereign nation, and the 1.5 trillion figure is the overall position not the annual transfer amounts. But what the hey – lets not let facts get in the way of a good old fashioned rant, eh?

    • Anonymous says:

Ummm…our budget is balanced with a nice surplus, thank you.

  9. Anonymous says:

The problem is talk show hosts are not trained for these type of jobs.

    • Anonymous says:

….but the REAL problem is that its just a damn job that needs to be filled. NOTHING is gonig to be done about any of the so-cal issues that are discussed even if a million dollar life saving solution is spoon fed on-air at any host for any topic (in these islands).

So what does it worth friend??

A sham is what these things are called in real life.

  10. Anonymous says:

Just as long as Mario Rankin never returns to the airwaves to talk his rubbish in his never ending pursuit of his illusions of grandeur to be the country’s leader without an education. Pity help us all.

I’m all for second chances but an admitted woman beater should not be given the time of day much less a job influencing the country’s youth.

    • Anonymous says:

Seriously? You want a woman abuser to be given an ‘equal’ opportunity? What about this hard working YOUNG Caymanian whom has been rinsed/washed by SO many “Goody two shoe” people in the last 2 years…?
Kenneth we know you, know where your from and just want you to keep going where you are headed son. The people out a road have legit gone mad mate.

      tune into 92.7

  12. bob says:

you forgot about Wally W. he didnt last long either. This show is joke and waste of time your better of running in the middle of town fully naked to get your messages across.

  13. Anonymous says:

There is a lot of bias. He should’ve been prepared for this, because he was under manners not too long ago. Poor admin/manager.

  14. Anonymous says:

Happy to know that Barrie is back She was great when she was on before. ‘Just wish they’d bring Austin back.

    • Anonymous says:

Austin needs his show to go 5 days a week…Rooster would have to discontinue their show..The show has become immature and embarrassing…

    • Anonymous says:

Austin Harris, the guys who assaulted a woman at a party? Yeah, no thanks.

      • Anonymous says:

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Just because h did something wrong in his personal live doesn’t mean he isn’t a good talk show host.

        • Anonymous says:

Actually, Kato, it does. How can someone who has such a piss poor attitude be a good talk show host?

  15. Anonymous says:

Barrie frequent quote: ” Don’t talk over me, don’t talk over me, aye aye aye.”

  16. Bigger Whopper says:

And another Rooster martyr..When the message gets too real and is in the Caymanian favor..can the messengers ass..Gooooooooooddd bye Rooster..

  17. Anonymous says:

The problem with this radio station is that the talk show hosts are not able to speak their minds because if they do a simple call from ‘the powers that be” to Randy forces him to make changes. Get some balls Randy. sooner or later you are going to end up with empty chairs and lost revenue. The only thing that you have got going now is that you are the only show that is daily. Monday, Wednesday and Friday I don’t listen because I have a choice between OC and Austin.

To be fair though, these two have not been the best you have ever had. Constantly talking over each other and totally uninformed politically…You would have been better off canning both and starting fresh with Barrie…then again didn’t you fire her once before…remember she spoke her mind and you fired her..she is a glutton for punishment too..I give her six months..Woody will be safe as long as Wayne, his brother in law is in office..PPM got him covered at least until the elections next year when they are moth balled.

kenneth….was rude and ignorant beyond belief with a huge chip on his shoulder…..
someone with such a biased agenda should never have been a host….

Nice auto thumb program you got there PPM…… That is not gonna help you win this election. Every IT person knows how to do it.

  20. George Nowak says:

    Just another day in paradise

  21. Sharkey says:

Mr Brian I see and know and understand why you were dismissed , but keep your head up and continue to do what is morally legally, right for the benefits of the people and Islands , and don’t worry about the brothers .

  22. Anonymous says:

Thankfully no more classless interruptions, continual rants and basically poor manners. I am very glad to not have to listen to that young man any longer as I had tuned out most days. Now if Woody would grow a set and please stop the annoying introduction of Goooooooooood Morning Cayman Islands, I just might tune in once again. This change is positive but Barrie had her issues too – Me thinks there will be further replacements by Christmas. I don’t think this move was political at all – just people complaining about his negative, narcissistic attitude. Amen brother. Ye reap what you sow.

  23. Anonymous says:

I will no longer tune in. The show is constantly changing. Tired of it now. I enjoyed Kenneth. Woody thinks he knows it all. Talks down to others.

    I am through.

  24. Anonymous says:

    What is his importance?

  25. Hello. Yea, this is me says:

    “impartial interviewer” ?

    Thanks for the laugh, Randy.

Unfortunately, Barrie was/is only impartial if 2 things don’t cross her.

    1. You agree for the most part with her and/or guests on the show.

    2. You don’t disagree with her and /or guests on the show.

Cross (sorry for the pun, not really) any of the above with early 2000’s BQ, you would have most likely find silence and a busy tone as you were cut off.

Anyway, Child. I hope maturity prevails and we truly will have an impartial team, for real this time, right Randy. ?

  26. Just Watchin says:

Cayman Crosstalk had become barely worth listening to – thanks ONLY to Kenneth, even if he talked a bit too much.
No need to tune in anymore now; you closed it down now Randy.
Hint – Woody would make a good hot dog stand attendant – the way he likes to quirt ketchup, mustard and pickles trying to make everything better than it really is Lol.

    • Anonymous says:

Im just tired of all the advertising they weave into the show. Talk about things that matter, not what Digicel or Shetty hospital is doing.

  27. Anonymous says:

Now I will tune in again. The show was so negative and full of bias I became sick. Woody wake up. Being negative and ill informed is not the way to be

If the only job you can get is a talk show host I hope you don’t intend to try and run this country.

  28. Anonymous says:

Good riddance. Loud mouth wanna be politician who was rude to guests and so politically biased it was pathetic. And never shut up long enough to let anyone who called in talk.

Best, and only good moment, was when his mom called in and dressed him down for being rude to Baines who was a guest on the show. ???

  29. Anonymous says:

Seriously Barrie is who you came up with???? She is another one sided talk show host and if you disagree with her she act much like Foolio did. Randy you continue to flip flop your hosts and it doesn’t seem to be working for you. Seek hosts that can bring objective views

  30. Anonymous says:

    Who cares?

  31. Anonymous says:

i could see it coming Kenneth

  32. Anonymous says:

Rooster is now run by ppm cabinet

  33. lo-cal says:

Just deleted my Roster setting on the radio.

Woody as a host is just outright boring and does not have the voice for radio. At least Kenny was willing to voice his opinions good or bad and provided excellent insight into politics in Cayman. I would love to see him team up with Austin on Star to debate the issues or get his own show along with Mario.

Kenny keep your head up! We all know that elections are getting close and this is just a ploy to silence your before the race. If you decide to run again i am sure you will win a seat.

  34. Anonymous says:

Randy is SO FULL OF BS If “She was an honest, capable and impartial interviewer who was widely respected by her guests when she originally hosted the show” – why did he fire her in 2006?

Does he really think the people are so dumb?

I understand the new HR manager is our friend Joey Ebanks from ERA/Northward fame. Perhaps he needs to give his brother a job once he’s out of jail. He appears to have an affinity for poor hiring/firing choices.

  35. Anonymous says:

CAYMANKIND you forgot Jonathan Piercy as well! I cannot believe that Barrie Q is going back there. Randy fired her last time also. This is a man with no loyalty towards his staff. I can tell you that much!

  36. Anonymous says:

Congrats, Barrie. Lots of good experience and a fabulous person. One piece of advice — let your guests speak. Your role is to ask questions and not to offer monologues.

Kenneth, wish you well. I like that you made hour departure without acrimony. Good job on your parting words. Hope you find your niche.

  37. Anonymous says:

Kenneth not worry about them, anyone who has a mind of their own in Cayman will always have to go through these difficulties. Stay strong, around every corner is a new opportunity waiting for someone to take.

  38. Anonymous says:

Likely phone calls were made and understandings reached. Hope Barrie doesn’t expect to retire from Rooster.

    • Anonymous says:

Kenneth had confrontations on air with almost every other guest. He was far too aggressive and needs to learn self control. Woody…….can he giggle any more? Light weight as can be. As deep as a puddle. He will last long.

  39. CAYMANKIND says:

Elio Solomon, Austin Harris, Kenneth Bryan all victims of politically influenced assassination at Rooster fm for challenging the PPM guests.

Definition of Political Irony: Woody DaCosta as host is useless but is family to minister Panton so no matter what he does he’s a loyal ppm party member and preaches the message so he stays employed.

    CAYMANKIND

    • Diogenes says:

As I recall Elio left the show so he could run for the LA. The other two both ended up in court and either pled guilty or were convicted – or are you saying that was a PM too?

      • Anonymous says:

U forget Foolio got relieved of his duties after that famous exchange with Marco Archer? I guess that was a coincidence too.

If you pressure PPM government ministers or try to hold them accountable you will pay the price ask the former hosts. Why do you think Alden and Ossie have not been on the show and refuse to come back to Rooster they do not want to face any real questions.

      • Anonymous says:

And what about Jonathan or even Barrie when she was fired? How many hosts has he had exactly on this Rooster show?

    • Anonymous says:

Woody tries to tell both sides of the story. Mr. Bryan was clearly bias. This is not what a talk show host should be. This is the scary thing about some politicians if you disagree with them they do not know how to be neutral and people get victimize. No fan of the Premier but Bryan biasness was so obvious that it was getting in the way of him doing a balance job. That’s what happened to the others as well.
Hope this helps him reflect on how to be a balance jouralist.

  40. True Tings says:

Finally, no more racist remarks. Woody and Barry will make a great team and now I will go back to listening to the talk show. Congrats Randy you’re finally back on track.

    • Barry Jones says:

Well if you are against racism/discrimination you need to champion the cause because there is racism/discrimination perpetrated every day against Caymanians in their own country. Or are you saying Caymanians should not be racist/discriminatory?
