(CNS): An 18-year-old man from George Town has been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm following a police chase in the early hours of Good Friday, in which officers recovered a gun. The young man was apprehended at around 2:00am on 25 March following a report to 911 that two men had a weapon in a car in the Rock Hole area of the capital. “Officers quickly responded to the location and saw the vehicle,” an RCIPS spokesperson said, adding that the officers made attempts to stop the car but it carried on driving.

“While travelling along School Road, one of the men exited the vehicle while it was still running and ran from officers. This man was seen with a firearm in his possession and was therefore pursued by officers. He disposed of the gun during the chase,” police stated.

The George Town teenager was arrested and the discarded firearm was later located at the scene. The driver of the car escaped and remains at large but the vehicle has been located and seized by the police. Charged today, the teen is due in court Wednesday.
