Cayman News Service(CNS) Updated 4:00pm Monday: Police have now named the man who died following a single-car collision near the Blow Holes, East End Friday night. Chris Ollen McLaughlin (30) of East End was killed when his Toyota left the road and collided with a CUC pole shortly after 1130pm on 11 March. When police and other emergency services arrived, McLaughlin, who was alone in the car, was unresponsive and had to be removed by the Cayman Islands Fire Service. He was taken to the hospital in George Town but had succumbed to his injuries.

Police say that the Sea View Road has now been reopened but urge drivers to exercise caution as utility repairs are still ongoing in the area.

This is the third fatal road accident so far this year. Denvil Roy Mitchell (40) died following a collision on Shamrock Road in Savannah Sunday 21 February when his motorcycle was hit by a Burgundy KIA Sportage near to the Countryside Shopping plaza. Ethel Venola Ebanks (86) died Thursday 28 January on Stake Bay Road, Cayman Brac, last month after her car crashed into a light pole when she lost control of her car exiting a supermarket car park.

CNS how is it that you all refer to the Fire Service as The Cayman Islands Fire Service but note the ambulance crew and police as other emergency services. How about you refer to the Ambulance Service as Cayman Islands Emergency Medical Services or even simply EMS.

Lets all remember here, that Health City aka Shetty Hospital doesn’t have an emergency room and neither does Chrissie Tomlinson.

  2. Eye witness says:

CNS should check the facts: Venola did not die as a result of an accident her death caused the accident.

So very sad to hear another life has been lossed on these roads. Any reason why they didn’t transport him to shetty hospital? Seems like he was right there maybe he could still be alive.

I believe he was killed instantly, so let’s not start the conspiracy theories this week again, before the facts are known.

Pretty sure Shetty doesn’t have an emergency room. Just because it’s a hospital doesn’t mean it can handle all situations.
