Water Authority – Cayman’s Bodden Town Pipeline Project

(CNS): Phase 2 of the Water Authority – Cayman’s Bodden Town Pipeline Project has been temporarily halted due to a delay in the import of materials needed to upgrade one of its plants, officials have confirmed. The project to replace the water main along Bodden Town Road between Gun Square Road and Manse Road began in January and so far around 1,150 feet of new pipeline has been installed. The authority said that about 1,000 feet more is to be installed but that work has been put on hold.

Officials confirmed to CNS that a delay in the arrival of materials needed to upgrade its reverse osmosis plant in Lower Valley, which impacts pressure, has led to the suspension of the work. The authority explained that the pressure issues are not impacting customers but it presents challenges for the new pipeline project.

Meanwhile, the water supply team is still working to connect customers to the new pipeline and to spray-and-chip the backfilled trenches to reduce dust in the area where the work has taken place. Customers living along the newly installed pipeline will be given notice before being connected to the new water main as it will require a brief interruption in water service.

While the project is on hold, there will be no traffic restrictions affecting Bodden Town Road except for two brief closures: Bodden Town Road will be closed to through-traffic from 9:00am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, 15 March, and Wednesday, 16 March.

“The authority will be installing pipelines across Bodden Town Road to connect the residents of Cumber Avenue, Monument Road and other side roads to the new water main,” Deputy Director Tom van Zanten said. “Water Authority personnel will be stationed at the intersections of Bodden Town Road and Condor Road, and Bodden Town Road and Anton Bodden Way to direct local traffic as necessary.”

During these brief road closures, all other motorists are asked to divert around Bodden Town via Anton Bodden Drive.
