(CNS): The RCIPS helicopter was involved in another medevac operation this weekend when the crew airlifted a female diver from Little Cayman who came close to drowning Saturday morning. Officials said that just before noon on 20 February, medical staff at Faith Hospital over on Cayman Brac requested the emergency evacuation to Grand Cayman for a 46-year-old woman who had almost drowned and was in need of urgent intensive care.

With no other options for the transport for the patient, the RCIPS Air Operations Unit accepted the request and flew to the Brac with an attendant from the Health Services Authority. The woman was transported to George Town Hospital by 3:30pm and police said she was in stable condition after receiving the medical care she needed on Grand Cayman.

Except medevac was not one of the original reasons for getting it and it specifically was excluded from the fit-out plan. What you’re seeing is one more example of why the helicopter they got wasn’t the right tool for the right jobs.

In it’s previous life in the UK, it undertook medevacs, why would it not do so here. In fact these type of helos are air ambulances all over the world. Just saying.

      • Seems like they are doing a great job regardless and sometimes an encouraging thank you goes a long way.Well done RCIPS another life saved.I respect your comments never the less.
