DUI suspect cuts power in West Bay
(CNS): An crash early Saturday morning caused a power outage for parts of West Bay that lasted several hours. The police said that a Silver Nissan Skyline had veered off the road and struck a light pole on North West Point Road in a single vehicle smash and a 21-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drinking and driving. CUC said electricity was cut when the car hit the light pole at about 3:15am and was restored around three hours later to all customers.
The pole was knocked down with electricity wires still attached to it, which not only caused the outage but also obstructed the northbound lane.
The driver was slightly injured and taken to the George Town Hospital following his arrest on suspicion of DUI.
It’s not called DUI in West Bay anymore, now known as doing a “Rolie”.
Each time there is an “accident”, even a non-fatal one or one without serious injuries… think of all the consequences. Emergency services need to be deployed, traffic is often delayed significantly, and people are generally inconvenienced. In this case many people were affected through the loss of power. Every one of us must do our part to use the roads safely and to encourage our friends and family to do so as well.
