(CNS): A West Bay man and a foreign national, believed to be an illegal immigrant, were arrested at the weekend by marine officers after a suspicious boat was spotted by the police chopper. Police said that at around 4pm Sunday afternoon, while the helicopter was on patrol, officers on board spotted a suspicious 35-ft ‘go-fast’ boat approximately ten miles off the coast of Barkers in West Bay.

The boat had two men on board and the Air Support Unit alerted Joint Marine Unit officers, who responded in the Niven D, one of the JMU’s vessels, and intercepted the boat.

Police said that the men on the boat, a 31-year-old from West Bay and a 45-year-old man believed to be a foreign national, surrendered to the marine officers, who then brought the vessel to the police marine base.

The men were both arrested on immigration-related offences. Police said they are now seeking to confirm the nationality of the second man.
