Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby

(CNS): In her traditional Christmas message to the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, the head of the Church of England, spoke of the Christian message of light in the darkness. In contrast, in his seasonal sermon, her Archbishop of Canterbury spoke about the apocalypse and described ISIS as the Herod of the day.

The Queen delivered her message on Christmas Day from Buckingham Palace, where she said the world had confronted moments of darkness this year but, quoting from the Gospel of John, she said she was hopeful.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it,” she said. “Despite being displaced and persecuted throughout his short life, Christ’s unchanging message was not one of revenge or violence but simply that we should love one another. Although it is not an easy message to follow, we shouldn’t be discouraged; rather, it inspires us to try harder, to be thankful for the people who bring love and happiness into our own lives, and to look for ways of spreading that love to others, whenever and wherever we can,” the Queen told her subjects.

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Anglican Church’s leader, was considerably less hopeful about the troubles in the Middle East, warning that Christianity was facing elimination in the place it all began.

“Today, across the Middle East, close to the area in which the angels announced God’s apocalypse, ISIS and others claim that this is the time of an apocalypse, an unveiling created of their own terrible ideas, one which is igniting a trail of fear, violence, hatred and determined oppression,” he said during his sermon preached from Canterbury Cathedral in England.

“Confident that these are the last days, using force and indescribable cruelty, they seem to welcome all opposition, certain that the warfare unleashed confirms that these are indeed the end times. They hate difference, whether it is Muslims who think differently, Yazidis or Christians, and because of them the Christians face elimination in the very region in which Christian faith began,” he said.

  2. Jg says:

The Queen isnt that bad if she’s stating biblical verses from the Gospel of John, she might not be perfect but atleast shes showing the world her Godly beliefs and i respect that, and the Cayman Islands should remain the way they are with their Christian beliefs as well just like any other country has their beliefs, why should we change for anyone else? We are ALL sinners and all sins are no different from eachother. So take a closer look and respect a countries background before you start with the “caymankind” subliminal attacks. We are who we are so dont try to take the stripes off the tiger. Im a Caymanian from the district of West Bay and i welcome any nationality and any belief you have. Just be kind to our locals and our beliefs and we’ll do the same. Happy holidays to all

  3. The Novelty of Colonialism says:

Careful now Who and others please do shatter this little colonialist empire enclave dream. Who still believe the royals are deities who when worshiped will afford you a lofty place here in high society and in the after life a fiefdom no matter how wicked or sinful you are. Yes do take care that you do not offend their loyal sensibilities so as to bring their wrathful anger of their immoral colonialist apparatus down even more upon us. After all they have diluted and ravaged our little Caymanian belief and society enough with their foreign interlopers with their cannibalistic ways.

So, I can finally end paying into my pension plan and spend the money on wine and fatty food.

What worries me most is that there are people that actually belief this bs.

So now because women have gained leadership rights in the world, people of colour have long progressed out of slavery, and the LGBT population in Cayman will now no longer be subject to discrimination by law, this means it’s the end of the world? I guess it must feel that way to many old white Christian men who have historically been oppressors. Please leave it to God to make the decision about when he’s had enough of the lies and deceit and it’s time to return and set the record straight! I say this as a Christian myself.

The Archbishop was simply recounting one of the key objectives of the ISIS lunacy, which fantasizes the bringing about of one of Mohamed’s prophecies, namely the Day of Judgement, following a conventional military victory by the forces of Islam over those aligned with “Rome”, specifically at al-`Amaq or Dabiq in Northern Syria. Nowhere do I read that he was suggesting we oblige them but bringing that battle.

The poor African slaves that came over here under brutal & terroristic conditions must have seen those days as dark and end of times days too…… The British monarchy and church of England are guilty of the wicked crimes committed against Africans, it can never be erased or forgotten, its no different than today’s terrorism, some will say that we should forget about it because it happened hundreds of years ago……. Judgement day is awaiting…

    • Your Bruther Mon says:

It is so sad that people continue to blame the “White” men for enslaving Africans. The truth is, the real culprits here is their own African brothers who sold them into slavery. When are these African “warriors” going to be held accountable for their actions?

The descendants of these African slaves are no longer enslaved and have reached the top of virtually all fields; including sports, entertainment, medicine and business. Meanwhile, their African brothers continue to be enslaved by tribalism, genocide, poverty, etc., etc. Slavery in all its form was terrible, but maybe for the descendants of these African slaves, it was a blessing in disguise. They are now certainly way better off than their African brothers!

Never forget, it was a terrible thing that should never have happened, however remind us of how the AFRICANS contributed to slavery and why slavery still exists there today.

Ah boy, the British Royal Family.
The UK’s equivalent to Cayman’s Stingray City.

    😀

LMAO, thank you, needed a jolly good laugh mate.

I noticed you kept denying your anti-British rhetoric we’ll use the above comment as an illustration, this one is simple enough for you to get a glimpse into your intentions, what’s awful is that you’re probably one of those “mixed” Caymanians befriending the British everyday trying to make it big.

    • Anonymous says:

Shows us what you think of our attractions eh? You are disgusted by the monarchy so based on your comparison you are disgusted by our stingray city as a popular attraction that you believe is overrated … There is no way you’re a Caymanian. Who you must be Jamaican on both sides or Jamaican and another nationality to hate Caymanians so because hating on UK does not mean loyalty to Cayman

      • Anonymous says:

Wow … that was quite a reach there poster.
You, sir / madame, are awesome!

Interesting how a simple passing comment has conjured up such emotion and innovation in the core of others.

Btw, since when did the “royal family” become “the UK”? Stop the crap, ok?
No nation of people disrespects and lambasts the British royal family more than the Brits themselves.

What you are attempting is the age old tactic of when outside the UK – which is to pretend all Brits are royalists … as a means to enhance your personal and national sensitivities.

The year is 2015, almost 2016 actually. The jig is up my friend.

        🙂

Btw, since you appear to have missed the point of my original post; I was simply equating the British royal family as simply another tourist attraction.
I am a bit confused as to why you took the angle of suggesting I do not value the unique features of my beloved Cayman Islands.

That being said, a Christmas message by the queen mother ‘ray from the sandbar would be of greater interest to me. Just saying.

Of course, if you wish to contest my categorisation I trust you will also accept that the very essence of supposed British democracy flies out the window at the same time.

        Your move.

        – Whodatis

        * Interestingly, if the fate of either tourist attraction would result in sudden removal, it is clear that the economic future of Cayman would be a lot brighter than that of the UK.

        😉

    • Anonymous says:

Oh man, you are so wrong! Who’d want to swim with the royals rubbing up against them?

    • Anonymous says:

      Turtle Farm I think!!
