RCIPS logo(CNS): With no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of 14-year-old Risco Batten, it will be up to a coroner’s court to determine how the young man came to drown while on a supervised swimming trip to a South Sound beach last month. Police said Tuesday that following a post-mortem last Friday, they are now assisting the coroner with the investigation.

The local teenager, who was a resident at the West Bay Bonaventure Boys home and a student at Clifton Hunter High School, was on a group trip organised by the home when he got into difficulties in the water behind South Sound cemetery.

current on the south side of the island is very strong (not some time but all the time)and persons who are not strong swimmers should not attempt to swim there. Persons in the supervisory position should have known better than to there for swimming.

It would be a civic suit not criminal

The obvious question is with all the beautiful designated swim areas we have around this island Why would you take children to and area where the cruise tenders are moored and current is bad makes no sense at all!

“A supervise swim” Never ever heard that in my life! Why didn’t the supervisor not jump into to save him was it because the supervisor can’t swim second question that area is well noted for currents because of the open end reef to the west near Sand Cay and how exactly did he drown and was he diving or what was he diving for in that area??? Something doesn’t sound right here at all. But not surprise as our shallow water experts in the RCIPS never ever see the obvious especially when the sword of liability is hanging over somebodies head.
