NDC issues Purple Bus route for NYE revellers

purple bus 300x200(CNS): Although many residents drive responsibly, there are still people who believe they can drink and then drive safely, despite evidence to the contrary, the National Drug Council said as they reminded residents and visitors who will be out celebrating on New Year’s Eve that the Purple Ribbon Bus will be running on 31 December from 9pm until 4am on 1 January. To make the buses even more visible this year, the NDC said they will have flashing purple lights in addition to the reflective magnetic signage.

There will be seven buses operating routes between West Bay and Bodden Town, and hourly to East End and North Side.

Anyone wanting to use the service should look out for the buses from Reid’s Premiere Tours displaying exterior reflective signs and flashing purple lights. The buses will pick up passengers at all major restaurants, bars, nightclubs and bus stops.

“Flag down the bus and hop on!” the NDC said, stressing that the Purple Bus Service is completely free. “Drink driving wrecks lives, can lead to arrest and imprisonment, loss of one’s driver’s license, and can ultimately be responsible for taking someone’s life or your own.”

The Purple Ribbon Bus service is sponsored this year by Dart, Ecay, High Impact Media, Greenlight RE, Jacques Scott Group Ltd. and Cayman National Bank. The flashing purple lights on the Purple Ribbon Buses was made possible under the special arrangement with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

This is the 15th year the Purple Ribbon Bus service has been offered, the NDC said. “On behalf of the National Drug Council, its Board of Directors and our sponsors we would like to encourage residents and visitors alike to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure you arrive home safely.”
