(CNS): Tonie Chisholm’s coral inspired outfit got Miss Cayman Islands into the final ten in the national costume round of the Miss Universe pageant Sunday night but the prize went to Miss Thailand, who came as the front end of a bus. Aniporn Chalermburanawong took the National Outfit prize, which was decided by voters calling into the show. Given the small population of the Cayman Islands, this gave Chisholm a distinct disadvantage.

Taking to the stage in an evening gown and bikini, as well as her fire coral costume, the contest was considerably less eventful for Miss Cayman Islands that it was for Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines.

Host Steve Harvey initially announced the winner as Colombia’s Ariadna Gutiérrez and it was not until after she had cried, put on the sash and crown, and walked around the stage waving and winking  at the audience that Harvey confessed that he had got it wrong.

In one of the most awkward moments ever at the pageant, the real winner, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach from the Philippines, was announced and the former Miss Universe, Paulina Vega, removed the crown off Gutiérrez’ shocked head and placed it on Miss Philippines.

A backward event for backwards people. Aimed at worldwide equivalent of fly-over state inhabitants.

Firstly, I think it’s a shame that the headline is using negative connotation in the headline. Miss Cayman, Tonie, certainly did not “fail” us. She made us very proud, receiving much media coverage from various outlets including the Daily Mail. Her charisma was very evident through her shared picture and video posts of her interactions with her fellow contestants, bringing awareness and recognition to our country. It’s sad that people are unable to recognize the hard work and dedication put into pageantry by these young women, outside of the what’s shown on stage. Great job Tonie, you represented well!

Seems that Steve Harvey read off a teleprompter and it was the teleprompter that was wrong. Apparently the card in his hand was just for show, although it had the correct information.

I have to agree, every year Government waste money by sending these girls away to these pageants. Let’s face it….Cayman will never win. NEVER…these pageants are very biased, as you can tell by the way they bashed her by being the “oldest contestant” Government should look into other ways in spending that money, I’m sure lots more can be done with it. Just my two cents…

Pageants in this modern Era are a slap in the face to women’s universal struggle for respect and equality. It basically says that at the end of the day all that matters is superficial. It is sanitized flesh peddling packaged as entertainment and cultural promotion.

The fact that pageants are so popular especially amongst women speaks to how little we respect ourselves as women yet we demand equality in society?

Did Miss Cayman make the final 10?

Privatize the pageant. How many Caymanian or permanent residence care about this event and what benefit do we gain by government spending cash for participation?

An who would pay for it? Like a lot of things CIG pays for with taxpayers money, no one else would pay for it with the own money. It only gets funded because CIG never has to account for spending other people’s money so is completely indifferent to the value placed on bit, the service delivered or the cost, as long a it pays off a friend or keeps a slice of the voting public, whose tax revenues are nowhere near the cost of providing their indulgence, happy.

2015 – Miss Universe Winner Announcement – What a F**** up!! If you ever wondered if this pageant should be cancelled; this situation is prove in itself. At least the Ms. World pageant requires the ladies to have a talent and a humanitarian project. One vote from me on deciding which of the two pageants are worth while the CI participating in or even an audience watching via TV. Steve Harvey could not even get two bits of information right. He should replace Donald Trump in the Republican race for the US Presidency. At least, he admitted he made a mistake before things got to out of hand.

I think the CI Government should privatize the Ms. Cayman Pageant. This would save the public purse a lot of money which could really be spent better elsewhere. For example, increasing the funds to better protect and conserve our natural environment for which is the only thing left that the CI can truly offer foreign tourists that is uniquely CAYMAN.

Dumb ass Harvey. Was a bit creepy throughout, then cocks up the biggest moment of the night.

On the test of “Are you a hick?”, the question “Do you think Miss Universe is a good idea” is pretty much the only question that needs to be included.
