Miss Cayman Islands Tonie Chisolm

(CNS): Cayman’s Tonie Chisholm is already going through her pageant paces in Las Vegas as the Miss Universe beauty contest gets underway ahead of the televised final, which is scheduled for 20 December, the night after the rival Miss World pageant. There will be 81 women competing for the Miss Universe crown, currently held by Paulina Vega from Colombia.

Chisholm and the other contestants will be fitted, photographed and interviewed over the next two weeks as they vie to make that final. While the Miss World contest has dropped the bikini round, Miss Universe is maintaining the tradition and released the pictures this weekend.

In China at the Miss World contest, Miss Canada has been barred from competing after she did not receive a visa from the Chinese authorities and Miss Greece has been sent home for allegedly misbehaving.

So far, there have been no contestant controversies surrounding the Miss Universe pageant created by Donald Trump, who is creating enough of his own in his run for the US presidency. However, earlier this year Chisholm was sent a “disciplinary” letter by the Miss Cayman Islands committee and was given extra coaching to ensure she didn’t misbehave further.

The early favourites for the crown include competitors from Colombia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sweden, France, Philippines, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic. Miss Australia, a former refuge from the conflict in Bosnia, is also tipped for the final, despite plans to wear a pastiche outfit of Dame Edna for the national costume round.

    Here is a suggestion for the Miss Cayman Islands Pageant Committee:
    1. Instead of awarding the winner the bulk of the scholarship prize why not share it out more equal. This way more young women of caliber may enter. Cayman has a lot of these such women. Say:
    Winner = $35,000.CI
    1st Runner-Up= $25,000.00 CI
    2nd Runner-Up= $10,000.00 CI

    2. Allow the Winner to represent the CI at the Miss Universe Pageant and the 1st Runner-Up represent the CI at the Miss World Pageant. This way we are giving the CI to have some chance of winning some International Pageant Award.

    3. Allowing the 2nd-Runner-Up to replace either of the two other winners if something happens that they can not fulfill their obligations.

    4. Ensure that ALL contestants meets the age requirement so that we always have a representative at one or ALL of these pageants.

    Food for thought!!

    I hope she actually place … Yawns! I can’t wait till cayman place at lease top 10 or 15! That would be so amazing! LAWD!

  4. I think wearing a Dame Edna tribute outfit gives Miss Australia a leg up on the competition. Shows she’s got a sense of humor and great taste when it comes to worshipping the world’s greatest giga-star, Dame Edna Everage. Mark my word. She’ll make a splash.

    What are “Dinosaur Eden’s” thoughts on this event? nah? Keep on judging a young ladies body for looks, its a “universal” pastime and sport for god’s sake. No SIN here.

    It is amazing to think from the pageant and the inane comments that this is 2015 rather than 1975.

    I must say that after my eyes started north, they slowly drifted south. Yikes! The perils of being a man. Move over LGBT fanatics, this news article has produced the desired result and I am quite happy about it.
