Former CONCACAF President Jeff Webb

(CNS): The regional football body, CONCACAF, is trying to reclaim money, amounting to tens of millions of dollars, that it says was given to its former president, Jeffrey Webb, and other officials in the association as bribes to secure lucrative travel contracts. CONCACAF sued Cartan Tours in a Los Angeles Monday, claiming the company paid off Webb and Enrique Sanz, CONCACAF’s former secretary general, to provide travel and hospitality services.

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football says that Webb and Sanz gave the firm an exclusive deal because of the kickbacks, even though the company did not have expertise to provide the services CONCACAF needed.

In a statement released yesterday, CONCACAF said its legal action sent a strong message that it would “seek restitution and other damages from those who cause harm to the Confederation”. CONCACAF claimed in the lawsuit that it was treated as a “proverbial cash cow”, as the company inflated charges, overstaffed events and added management fees to every dollar spent on events.

“There is only one reason Cartan was able to continue this scheme: it had a secret deal with Webb and Sanz to pay them off,” the lawsuit claimed.

Stupid Question: Shouldn’t CONCACAF be suing Webb and Sanz? Since they are the ones who received the money?

    • Anonymous says:

A very good question actually! Why CONCACAf is not suing JW and ES, could be a matter of timing? JW pleaded guilty and still cooperating with the US authorities, ES althought not charged or arrested by the US is probably a key informant for the case.

Maybe the Cayman attorney mention in the documents would like to provide some legal information for the rest of us?

This is so disgusting. With the information we now have and the knowledge of JW guilty plea and the exorbitant amount of money being mention in these cases. Mr. JW and his CIFA executive team in the last 20 years never offer an opportunity or assisted any local boys or girls in a serious sustainable way to try in a professional environment because there was no funding available. One Rolex watch would have pay for one year of a boy/girl funding. And you do not want to talk about the support of the national teams where funding was/is never available to properly support the players efforts.
    I hope justice is made!!!

So your complaint is not that Jeff Webb is a lying, stealing embarrassment to the Cayman Islands but that none of his ill gotten gains were spent to youth?

      • Anonymous says:

Absolutely not. The complain is that according to his guilty plea he and other dig theirs hands in the Fifa FAP and Goal project funding. These were “proper” funds to be used locally.

This man has been a con man as long as I remember….a certain year XXX3 when he so easily got status grants for certain “local” national football team players who had only been here X amount of months, while completely overlooking others on the same team who had been here X amount of years (ie all of their lives) comes to mind. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW JEFF. Good luck with dat.

    • Anonymous says:

Are you suggesting there may have been corruption in relation to the status grants? Is nothing sacred? The police should investigate immediately!

      • Anonymous says:

Never happen if it was granted by Cabinet because the Governor sits as chair. So forget it my friend.

Wow Jeff, look at what you have done. Injustice is undeniably an understatement.

  7. Ex-Patriot says:

    Oh Dear;

So all of those private charter flights, red carpet reception, fleet of European limousines, and head of state treatments was a bit excessive? On top of all that they get a
“commission” ? Now that a life style.

  9. The Donald says:

Ahh, Cartan Tours. Now which other Association in Cayman uses them I wonder? More importantly, why?
