Anonymous joins cyber war against ISIS

(CNS): The war against Islamic State is heating up online after the international hackers group ‘Anonymous’ released a YouTube video threatening a massive cyber attack on the jihadists. The British have also announced an increase in their spying budget following the terrorist attack on Paris Friday evening. Here in Cayman, the premier joined in the global condemnation Monday and said the threat of terrorism remained throughout the civilized world.

“This was not just an attack on Paris and France, but an attack on all mankind,” Alden McLaughlin said.

The online hacktivists in Anonymous are widely known for their audacious attacks on government agencies, corporations and religious groups, such as the Church of Scientology and Westboro Baptist Church, have had ISIS in their cyber sights since the January attack on the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. The hacktivist group is believed to have dismantled at least 149 websites affiliated with ISIS, flagged approximately 101,000 Twitter accounts and nearly 6,000 propaganda videos.

However, ISIS has dismissed the group’s threats, calling them idiots in a video of their own released by the Islamic Cyber Army on their underground telegram app.

The British government is also upping its cyber challenge as it expands its security services. Prime Minister David Cameron said Monday that an additional 2,000 spies will be hired by MI5, MI6 and GCHQ, and many of those will be working to infiltrate the online ISIS network. He said its security services had foiled seven potential attacks in Britain over the last year and more manpower was needed to combat the “generational struggle”.

Full statement from Premier Alden McLaughlin:

The Cayman Islands joins the rest of the world in mourning those who died in France in Friday’s terrorism attacks.

I commend the swift action of police in rounding up and detaining suspects.

To our residents and visitors from France, you and your nation are in our thoughts and prayers.

We know that the threat of additional terrorism attacks remains high, not only in France but throughout the civilized world. This was not just an attack on Paris and France, but an attack on all mankind.

I hope Anonymous can find out where these psycho’s get all their cash from and publish a list of donors online…

maybe france should follow caymans lead in discriminating against immigrants and not give them equal rights….

    • Anonymous. says:

Maybe they should but they like us have already let in too many riff-raff.

Immigrants have more rights in the Cayman Islands than natives. Take a look at the legal/judiciary, see how the sentencing and jail time is netted out. Do a comparison. An immigrant takes over $300,000 and absconds and isn’t brought to justice, but an native makes the wrong deal of Over $300 and is sentenced and jailed. Who wins?

i wonder how much terrorist money flows through our ‘financial services’ industry……

    • Anonymous says:

Many of us wonder that. I suspect The Emerite of Dubai, and it’s Free Trade Zone “Jebel Ali” is very involved. I doubt Cayman would be invoved with the Hawala banking system…

    • SwampCrab says:

Imagine how much flows through the US, afterall thats where the majority of their funding indirectly comes from…..

    • Anonymous says:

Possibly no more than flows through one well-known US-based online auction site and its banking offshoot. It’s ironic that while they’re making donation to the victims of the Paris attacks their own organisation is probably still laundering $millions for the people involved.

Ironic that Alden McLaughlin has commended French police while he remains silent on Cayman crime!

If you have nothing to say keep quiet. I am happy he took the time. We have many of our families and students in Europe and what happened in Paris could have involved anyone of our family member, students etc.

Pray Cayman and the world as a whole.

Thanks CNS for publishing this as a vast majority of our own are in Europe and read your website daily.

Alden surely needs to address the issue of crime in Cayman but crime in Cayman is nothing compared to other places around the world which is far worst than here and I’ve been living here for 3 years and its the most peaceful place I’ve ever lived in.

17/11 @ 8:32, you are so right and that is why we need to be choosey and VIGOROUSLY enforce our LAWS and that’s not being against human rights.

Not sure where you lived, but I am most recently from a town of about 150,000 in the US and the crime here is FAR worse and far more common. Every unit in our (not cheap) complex has been burgled, or attempted, already this year, and our cars have been broken into twice. We’ve been burgled in two different complexes on the island (out of two we’ve lived in). Our immediate area has seen a groper, rapist, and several stabbings. I felt safer in Houston, TX than here.
