The mugger was about 6 feet tall, medium build with very dark complexion. He was wearing a dark green T-shirt with a black vest, dark jeans, black shoes and a white covering over his head.

Soon we’ll need a ‘machete licence’ so they can track down the perpetrators.

I think we need to be culturally sensitive to the use of machetes. They have historical importance to Jamaica and the Cayman Islands and since we all know that the Cayman Islands is really known as little jamaica, we need to celebrate that diversity regardless of these small mishaps.

Every time you hear the use of a machete in the news, whether it be good or bad, just think of our motherland jamaica.

I will be at your local supermarket asking for donations to create a cement statue caste in the shape of a machete, with hanging dreadlocks snipped from my many brothers on the island who have contributed to our constant crime wave.

We can place the statue next to that tree with the many shoes nailed to it. It will be an artistic statement of diversity and the direction of the present and future culture of the cayman islands. God bless each and every one of us.

Put it in Bodden Town in front of the house with the three hangman’s nooses right at the turn into town. Trip Advisor will love it.

how come the didn’t mention what accent the person had in this case? but when its a Cayman accent its always mentioned that seems strange to me.

As everyone knows the use of a Cayman accent proves a crime was committed by a Jamaican because they do impressions to try to fool the popo.

I trust the premier has considered making George Town safe as part of the revitalization strategy. I think Cayman is the only country he Western Hemisphere one can be robbed. Block a way from the police station and the perp cannot be caught. Sorry correction with the exception of Mexico.

Are you serious? Do you not read the papers? Are you so ignorant of what is going on outside of Cayman?

  5. SKEPTICAL says:

When the CIG gets into it’s revitalizing programme for GT maybe they can rename it Dodge City

Mary St is not central GT, it is not even close to Harbour Drive. It is the edge of Rock Hole. Get your facts straight.

      • Anonymous says:

It all merges into the same horrible place where no sane person would go after dark.

      • C'Mon Now! says:

It shows up on the tourist map as Central GT. Boundaries are the harbor along with Mary & Shedden. If we take your attitude maybe we should change the tourist maps to Camana Bay for the stay over tourists and don’t even get off the ship for the cruise passengers. Seriously we need to address the criminal element no matter where it strikes. You can hit a golf ball onto Mary Street from the LA and you are claiming it is not downtown?

      • Fred the Piemaker says:

You are kidding, right? It’s less than 200m from Heroes Square, and 300m walking from Harbour Drive. How big is Central GT in your world ? I know Cayman is a small place, but really. Calling somewhere that is less than 3 minutes walk away “not even close” takes parochialism – or idleness – to a new level.

well done to succesive government for making the capital a no-go zone……well done muppetts…..

  7. Number 1 says:

We are not an armed society, and our government seems to not be promoting one.

We are so reliant on a slow-response police service that could one day (along with having its CCTV powers and powers to tap our phones) be used to socially control us, instead of fighting crime.

Perhaps why promotion of arming the population and strict privacy laws are not being courage. The criminals (both legal and illegal ones) are taking this to their advantage.

Imagine we call the police during a home invasion. They take nearly an hour to arrive without arms, but it is illegal here for civilians to carry a taser or pepperstray. The police comes to your home, finds no one, but takes away your taser and pepperstray. And more than likely you are charged for having it.

You know what will help? A cruise berthing facility.

Vote kinky, you are a genius!! We will just get all our machete wielding robbers on the dockside, and the tourists will think it’s a cultural thing and throw money at them! Everyone happy! Perhaps we could also set up a stall to sell all that ganja they keep finding on the beach. It will pay for the dock in no time!
