RCIPS K-9 Unit

(CNS): Two men were rounded up by the RCIPS Thursday following a prompt response to a report of a burglary-in-progress in West Bay. Police said a woman came home and disturbed two burglars who were in her house in the vicinity of  Up the Hill Road. Uniformed officers on patrol in the area and the police helicopter responded at around 3:30pm, arriving at the scene within minutes, police said.

The uniformed officers spoke to the burglary victim and then, assisted by the helicopter crew, gave chase to the two men, who fled from behind the house, police said. A member of the K-9 Unit also responded and tracked one suspect to a nearby house, where he was apprehended. The second suspect was nabbed later at his home.

The suspects, aged 21 and 25, both from West Bay, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, and are currently in custody.

K9 Unit? You mean there still is one? This is the first I have heard about them in donkey years, accept for the one who got out of its kennel and hit by a car and the other escaped kennel was lost then found

Yes there is still a K-9 unit and I personally know how good a job they do when it comes to locating drugs / people, doing their job in general. Sadly they are not recognized for all the hours and hard work they put in day in day out. How sad that people can just assume and say negative things and don’t really know what happens behind the scenes!

I for one am glad that the RCIPS K-9 unit has the current officers it does now, because though the unit is small they work hard and are dedicated and show results…..just that most of you aren’t aware! ?

Good job. Hopefully they will have a few “reminders” of their encounter with the dogs.
