(CNS): A woman in West Bay was attacked by a barefoot man at around 5:30 Tuesday morning close to Bonneville Drive and the entrance to The Shores. Between the annual cost of running the RCIP, and according to them, this is just keeping the doors open, the costs of the CCTV that was provided by the Security Centre that does not capture much more then shadows at night, along with the maintaince of this scheme, how in any good faith, could Mr. Baines suggest adding more staff to the RCIP, suggest asking the public to invest money into the CCTV which by all intents and purpose is to but the system from the Security Centre, with headlines like this as the norm?

why is it your leaders don’t want guns and pepper spray??? because your leaders would change promptly remember the police are just a tool and so is immigration and there is nothing to stop them. Lots of jaded people running around cayman perhaps people would be much happier if they were allowed to have guns.

Did they ever catch this guy? I just bought a house in Bonneville. Didn’t read this blog before my purchase.

we are talking about a very tiny island, sqf wise, with a population of 55,000, and RCIPS of 450 people, K-9 unit, a helicopter and CCTV can’t find them? Do they have databases of fingerprints and DNA of the island’s criminals?

    • Anonymous says:

Agreed. The dogs have been escaping, ran over I believe, there is no headlines of any drug siezures they have found not captures of criminals, only assistance in operations. More money wasted.. The CCTV provided by the Security Centre is not producing results comparable to what was paid and is on going due to maintaince. Between the RCIP PR walk around neighborhoods begging for help, and pictures of Stuart Bostock and our Premier touring the new office of the Security Centre, it begs asking why is this , when our crime is at a disgusting level? Next will be drones patrolling Sun contracted by the Security Centre to keep is safe. This is obvousily either incompetence or a hidden agenda

    • Anonymous says:

No we don’t have a database of fingerprints of residents/caymanians, nobody. If the RCIPS/IMMIGRATION wanted to curve criminality they would insist that that is the way to go. But, it is quite likely that some of the foxes, who are guarding the hen house may just be caught up in the fingerprinting.

All they have to do is ask Mac. These are his people yet his main worshipper calls Rooster demanding the resignation of Baines….perhaps Mac should resign.

A few months ago I have made a comment that RCIP must increase random spot checks on individuals to determine why they are up and down certain roads at somewhat odd hours. The check needs to also include the immigration status, yet, people didn’t like the suggestion as it could potentially “inconvenience” someone who may be legitimately just wandering around and they that checks would be offensive.

Anyway, with the small size of this Island, RCIP must know where the areas are where certain “shady” individuals seem to hang out regularly and those spots must be frequented by RCIP to discourage and scatter such hang outs and loitering.

I can name a few – BT public beach, between/behind the post office and Country Side in Savannah (check on a Friday night after pay day and a stop to the Liquor Store), the shops at Pease Bay (you know next to the police station!),

In this case, I am sure there are not too many people in WB running around bare foot at 5:30 in the morning, but maybe there are……….

It wasn’t me. I wear shoes.

  7. Anonymous says:

How about the government wake up and see that the crime is rising here….why not allow some sort of protection? Pepper spray or something non lethal for our own safety???

Do women need to exercise with machetes to ward off attackers?

  9. Pissed off West Bayer says:

I cannot believe that this is what Cayman is coming to. I refuse to fear for my safety because some crack head believes he must sexually hurt me!! PEOPLE LIKE THIS NEED TO BE IN PRISON!

    • Ibeg Yaplease says:

THEN STOP VOTING FOR MCKEEVA. Oh, and stop shouting.

      • hafoo says:

Millions given to the Police a year for more staff, equipment, training etc. Then to top it off seperate funds to pay for the CCTV provided by the Security Centre, and we have far too many violent criminal acts. Our women are not safe. It is time to stop the lip service and make the Island truley safe. No more gimmicks, real Police action is needed. No more road show PR campaigns. If the RCIP management were a privately controlled group, regardless of reason for almost non performance, they would be terminated. Oh, but wait, the Security Centre has not been, as that provide services for the RCIP and there is almost always contraversy surrounding the services they provide the RCIP and the Portfolio of Internal and External affairs. Something is amiss here.

Who is going to be brave enough to let the public know what’s happening or what is the solution to the CCTV conondrum? Taxpayers need to know why there is no night time coverage from the CCTVs. I am sure the company/supplier was paid royally. Answers please.

It is more a Lodge matter.

A senior civil servant is also building a nice million dollar apartment complex at the moment, guess government pays better than we thought … in the US, questions would be asked about source of funds, but around here, no one bats an eye

        • Hancock says:

Do not forget Rotarians, Lions and Pink Ladies. They all must be held accountable. Take no prisoners.

It begs to ask in a place where there is a lot of criminal activity at night why this was not installed?

    • Ron says:

Not to worry the piers at the dock will solve all of Cayman woes.

If that’s all she remembers what else should they say? Let me guess, make it up right?!

  12. Anonymous says:

I’ll say this again… Women SHOULD be allowed to carry pepper spray on this island!!

  13. Anonymous says:

Thank you for such a helpful description!!!! Do the police here purposely try not to solve crimes??

    • Anonymous says:

Well, there is a motto that states,”Be Prepared”. I believe in preparing for any event. Their are some sick crackheads around so we all have to be very vigilant.

      • Anonymous says:

And a whole bunch of those crackheads are in very high positions. There ought to be a random drug check on all Civil Servants from the upper echelon to the lower bunch of hangers on!! The violence at the top of government added to the total lack of reasoning needs to be evaluated.
To think that Joey was an aberration and a one off victim of drugs is close to thinking that to continue running the country like this and hoping for a different outcome is close to insanity.

        • Anonymous says:

While I agree with random drug screening, alcohol is more widely misused and abused by some civil servants who during their drunken state will discuss what I believe is privileged and confidential information. I know to what I speak as I heard it a few months ago, firsthand in Da Station where labor staff was discussing and might I add, laughing about a particular matter. I have also heard immigration staff (not officers) doing the same. This is wrong and needs to stop. To close I will only iterate that the CCTV cameras appear to be only benefitting the suppliers as there has been no disclsoure that the cameras have aided in the solving of any crimes.

          • Anonymous says:

Not true. Mr. Eric Bush made headlines a while ago saying that they were working. So it must be true.

        • Anonymous says:

Did Joey ever named his supplier?
