Smugglers abandoned canoe, October 2015

(CNS) UPDATED Sunday 11:00am: The RCIPS Drugs and Serious Crimes Task Force has now formally charged three men with with illegal landing and importation of ganja in connection with a suspected drug smuggling operation that officers interrupted last Sunday. The men, aged 32, 42 and 43, were arrested on Friday morning (30 October) just after 11:am in the West Bay area. They will appear in court on Monday 3 November.

Police have confirmed that one of the men was the same individual who appeared to have left identification documents in an abandoned canoe found in North Side.

The men are suspected of landing in Cayman illegally on Sunday night after police intercepted a suspicious canoe off the coast of North Side. Police recovered several packages of ganja from the ocean and later found the abandoned boat used by the men on a beach.

Police had previously stated that four men were believed to be at large.
