Cayman visa stamp for Jamaicans

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Government is extending the length of visas that visiting Jamaicans can apply for from five to ten years. The premier said this new enhanced visa would assist business travellers, church officials and other frequent visitors from the neighbouring island. Costing $92, this is the first time that the government has offered a decade-long travel pass to any nationals that require a visa to enter the country. The visa does not impact Jamaican residents and work permit holders but is designed for those who visit frequently.

The visa regime between Cayman and Jamaica was introduced in the wake of Ivan by the CIG. Seen as a slight by the Jamaican government at the time, it responded by introducing a visa for Caymanians travelling to Jamaica as well.  It is not clear if the Jamaican government will now respond by offering Caymanians the same extended visa.

This is ppm trying to get back the Jamaican votes because they know they are losing them because of this money transfer issue.

Thats what Cayman needs. More fundamentalist church officials. With the emphasis on mentalist.

    church officials ?? WTF !!!

You should just admit that you are still ruled over by Jamaica

    • Anonymous says:

Except back then, we were ruled by the British living IN Jamaica…….. big difference

    • Anonymous says:

We were never ruled by Jamaica, before 1962 JA and CI were ruled by the British, Cayman is still a BOT but now our leaders, and political parties, we can say they are controlled by Jamaicans

Look at it this way. The Caymanians benefit. What will happen now is that Jamaicans will get the blame for the increase in burglary and crime instead of the Caymanians. So count your many blessings.

  6. Knot S Smart says:

Well we have less Jamaicans than any other nationality in Cayman so what we need is to get some more…

Clearly good news for the Lodge members now…..

What is the point of doing this with the current fiasco regarding US currency? Are Govt. addressing this? You won’t have any Jamaicans here pretty soon unless they sort that mess out.

Why would Cayman do this? Jamaica only gives Cayman passport holders a one year visa. Heck, a Caymanian born in Jamaica only gets a three year visa if travelling there on a Cayman passport (I mean real Caymanians who only have Cayman passports not Jamaicans with status who invariably hold both Jamaican and Cayman passports).

This is the same bargaining skill that has yielded to every US information disclosure demand without negotiating anything for Cayman in return.

Looks like some blatant church pandering exercise in the final analysis.

You never heard of real Caymanians with Jamaican and Caymanian passports? If they were born there they would have gotten a Jamaican passport to travel here in the first place. Then why give it up?

      • Anonymous says:

Real Caymanians meaning children of Caymanians who were born in Jamaica from the 1940s-1960s. With names like Tibbetts, Webster, Foster and others. I am one and have never held a Jamaican passport.

        • Anonymous says:

The majority of Caymanians are really Jamaicans who have been in Cayman long enough to be rude about Jamaicans who have been around for less time.

          • Anonymous says:

Isn’t that the story of global settlement?

          • Anonymous says:

Wow, new tactic now…. fits anti-British, now all Caymanians are Jamaican sorry dear we have African roots that ‘passed’ through Jamaica courtesy of the Spanish and British plunderers. I am as related to the African Americans as the African Jamaican

Sniffs of lodge cronies and continued corruption. This will lead to joblessness and crime. The politicians will then blame the UK? and of course then drag us into independence and complete ruin. The only people to profit will be lodge boys and cartels, what a shame they have lost our way.
I knew some of the old time founders and original families (and yes some were in the lodge too) and all my uncles are now rolling over in their graves with this wave of greed and unethical ways….
Always ask: who profits from these decisions?

Ah, thank goodness we can enjoy longer stays by all of these “church officials”.

It’s all well and good to give 10 year visa for the good people of Jam. But how about fingerprinting ALL immigrant workers?
We are neighbors to some very crime-ridden countries (including North America) and basic fingerprinting should be standard in this day and age, especially as fake police records & documents are a known occurrence.
As for allowing Jamaica’s older people and children to come visit Cayman without Visas that’s OK – but too bad that Cayman’s officials will not ask the same in return!
Our students, sick, elderly & EVERYBODY have to go Kingston to apply for visas to go USA.
After all, if Cayman could back down and ease the Cayman visa stipulation for their young & elderly, why cant they reciprocate??
    Who is negotiating these?

    • Rp says:

Agree but while we are at it let’s build the fingerprint database with all foreigners and all of our own! Let’s face it, some of our guys are quite criminal.

If we had representatives that had balls, not the ones you bat, they would’ve had an US Consular visit at least 4 times a year to interview an issue Visas to Caymanians. They visited years ago, but their visit and interviews was dominated by permit holders and others. When will our government do something for the VOTERS, or we have to apply for a permit to be recognized.

      • jose says:

7:19. Wake up this has nothing to do with Balls the US cannot and will not do this because of our small population and the fact that their finger print system is not mobile ….at least try and get a fact of two before you should off what you don’t knowzzzzzzzzzzz

        • Anonymous says:

5:06 that’s why we have REPRESENTATIVES, to look out for the natives and get what’s best for us. To the opposite they are busy making it more difficult for the natives and easier for all and sundry to root us out.

  12. SwampCrab says:

Ah yes, give more legal access to criminals. Dont you think we have enough stealing, robberies, burglaries and property destruction going on yet? Where do you presume all of the proceeds are going? Great thinking! Way to go PPM, f***ing idiots..
