(CNS): Large parts of the capital were without power again on Friday (16 October) as a result of equipment failure on a pole in Maclendon Drive near Foster’s Food Fair. Customers in various parts of George Town experienced power interruptions between 1:22pm and 3:48pm, Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) officials said in a release. Areas affected included North Sound Road, Dorcy Drive, Maclendon Drive, Hospital Road, Walkers Road, Memorial Avenue, parts of Shedden Road and South Church Street.

The afternoon outage lasted around two and a half hours as CUC crews worked safely to identify the problem and restore power as quickly as possible, the power provider said but did not explain what the problem was.

CUC apologised “for the inconvenience the outage may have caused”.

Would this be the state of the art equipment some idiot from CEC was here bragging about in his offended response to my previous comment about antiquated infrastructure at CEC the last time we had a blackout (along with overpaid directors and overbilled customers)?

Its a conspiracy by the pro port faction to disrupt the anti port lobby and save the stores some money from having to pay staff. Sadly, not being particularly gifted in the neuron department, power outage impacted Friday and not Saturday when the march was. UK is probably behind it somewhere. Possibly the IRS too.

With all the money we, the consumer, pays to CUC in ridiculous and unwarranted fees, their equipment should be first class, top notch, well maintained and should NOT be failing every five minutes. Come on CUC, get your act together. Either do better than this and eliminate these constant outages, or reduce the ridiculous fees which are clearly not being spent where they ought to be.

Not like you’re paying for any down time. I know it sucks, but at least they aren’t charging you for a service they aren’t providing.
