Queen Elizabeth II

(CNS): Elizabeth II has become Britain’s longest reigning monarch having surpassed the record held by Queen Victoria, her great-great grandmother, Wednesday. Head of state for the UK, its remaining colonies or overseas territories and the Commonwealth, she has been on the throne for 63 years and seven months. Crowds cheered the 89-year-old queen in Scotland, where she was spending the special royal occasion,Wednesday.

Business in the British parliament was postponed for half an hour so that MPs, led by the Prime Minister David Cameron, could pay tribute to the longest reigning monarch in Britain’s history.

The prime minster said she had been a “rock of stability” in an era when so much had changed, and her reign had been the “golden thread running through three post-war generations”, the BBC reported.

The precise moment that the Queen breaks Victoria’s record is unknown because the exact time of death for her father, George VI, is uncertain as he died sometime in the early hours of 6 February 1952. Buckingham Palace has, however, calculated that at around 5.30pm UK time she will have reigned for 23,226 days and passed the milestone.

To mark the occasion the palace released a new portrait of the Queen, taken by Mary McCartney, the daughter of pop royalty, Sir Paul McCartney, who described the monarch as “a trailblazer and a beacon” for women.

With tributes and messages pouring in, the Queen made a short speech from the Scottish borders, where she opened a new railway station at Tweedbank.

“”Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones — my own is no exception — but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness,” the monarch stated.

Hello. I’m sorry, but to celebrate this milestone is offensive to say the least.

I find it repulsive that people celebrate a system and heritage that created inequalities and used force to ensure servitude through the centuries.

I am also surprised at this country (UK) for supporting this regime, and the crimes it commited in the name of the king and queen.

Especially in light of the fact that they are pushing for Human Rights so hard, and trying to force it down everyone elses throats.

I find it degrading, bigotistical and it causes me to suffer from the humilation and extreme hardship they have caused me personally.

I emplore the Cayman Islands HRC, as well as the UNHRC to take up this fight and have this injustice removed for the sake of humanity.

    Take this system down.
You want it you got it. Take care of your own backyard before you look in mine.

Bigotistical–I’m going to start using that one myself. As far as the rest, that claim of extreme hardship and humiliation sounds bullshitsical to me.
