(CNS): A 39-year-old man has been arrested over the importation of ganja after the police helicopter spotted what looked like a drug smuggling operation Friday night outside the reef in Frank Sound. Police said the air operations unit “observed suspicious activity by two vessels tied together” at around 10:30pm (11 September). The boats left the area in opposite directions, with the first vessel, which an RCIPS spokesperson said appeared to be a Jamaican canoe, heading southeast, and the second vessel headed towards the Frank Sound Dock.

While the police helicopter followed the canoe as it approached international waters, uniform officers from Bodden Town were dispatched and searched the shoreline area, where they discovered a significant quantity of drugs in the bushes onshore.

The police helicopter turned back to follow the boat heading to Frank Sound and  coordinated with the Bodden Town officers as the vessel reached the shore. Officers arrested the captain of that boat on suspicion of the importation of ganja. He has since been released on police bail.

The helicopter department seem to be one of the more effective police units, great work gain. Not sure who said that we do not need the helicopter, but we do need it! Of course some people do not like it, that is the best reason for keeping it!!!!!
