IBC plane lands safely 21 Sept 2015

(CNS): Airport officials and the police have confirmed that an IBC Airways cargo plane made an emergency landing at the airport in George Town just before noon Monday. The plane landed safely and without incident with the support of the local emergency services, including the helicopter. The pilot of the Saab twin engine plane, which was carrying two passengers as well as cargo, called in the emergency at around 11:15 as a result of hydraulic problems with its flaps and landing gear during its flight from Miami.

The plane, which was heading to Owen Roberts International Airport, issued the notice about twenty minutes before it was due to land. The full airport emergency plan was activated and the police helicopter was deployed at the request of air traffic control to check on the landing gear as the cargo plan approached.

Prior to landing, the hydraulics issue on the aircraft appeared to have cleared, and the police helicopter crew used their FLIR camera equipment to confirm directly with the pilot and air traffic control that the undercarriage appeared deployed and in normal position. The landing was completed without incident with cover from the Airport Fire and Rescue Service at 11:48.

This is not the first time this has happened with this particular plane/planes from this company. Maybe CIAA along with the FAA need to take a look at the safety and service logs of this fleet. I’d be curious to know how many other countries have had issues with this

only in third world countries is the airport next to a grocery store even worse is all that open land to the east and you winners are investing more in that disaster waiting to happen

Could have been down via a fly-by with visual confirmation by the tower as was done before we had a helicopter.

I know Baines likes his Air Force to get good press but this was a bit over the top.

They could have come to my office and seen the landing gear was down.
Waste of money deploying the helicopter for a no brainer

Basically the same type of old aircraft that Cayman Airways just bought.

This is at least the third incident involving this company planes. Why are these wore out planes even allowed to fly into Gc and endanger people. One day some one is going to get hurt by these piece of junk. Are they no other freight planes that can be used?
